Nami-ko by Kenjiro Tokutomi (1868 - 1927). Translated by Sakae Shioya ( - 0) and others

This project is now complete. All audio files can be downloaded form the catalog page:
https://librivox.org/namiko-by-kenjiro-tokutomi/

A story of domestic life in Japan at the beginning of the Meiji Period. Translation of Hototogisu (The Cuckoo), one of the most famous Japanese novels of that time. ( to be amended)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/namikorealisticn00tokuiala
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

"Nami-ko, by Roka Tokutomi. Translated by Sakae Shioya and Edwin Edgett [Chapter]"
For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:

  • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"

Thank you Larry, I appreciate it!
Seems you're going on a trip through Asia with your recent DPL projects

I won't start rightaway because there's a little detail I need to figure out before I start recording... Won't take long though, promise.
Cheers, Ava.

Just one small note:

5:58 Repeat: You are surprised to find me here, aren’t you . . . .

Enjoyed the brief reference to Maebashi. We stayed there several days with the family of a girl we hosted in our home as an exchange student. They also took us up to Nikko, Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Falls, where I had visited many years earlier. It was early spring, so we couldn't drive around the lake, and the falls was beautiful with ice! And, wild monkeys along the twisting road.

Two more sections are up, concluding book 1.

It seems that mother-in-law is quite the handful... :?
