L'Art Pour l'Art by various.

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/lart-pour-lart-by-various/

Volunteers outside the USA: Some of these authors and translators died as late as 1960. These works are still protected by copyright in places like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, and Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955). <p>
A disparate assemblage of lingual mastery spanning genres and prowess with an eye toward style in favor of capitulation. ( kilpatrick83)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/24650
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

      lartpourlart_##_andreyev_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. lartpourlart_01_andreyev_128kb.mp3)

Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
      • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader

(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
      • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: TriciaG
      • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.

This is a messy project - messier than I expected.

The text link you provided goes to The Gentle Art of Making Enemies by James McNeill Whistler. Or is this included in this project?

We'll need links to your text - or is it multiple texts? Well, to all of them.

Next time, please wait until you've gotten an MC and the Magic Window before uploading files. Just because I answered your initial inquiry didn't mean I was going to oversee this project. I guess I'm shanghaied into it now. :)

On the audio intros, what did you say? "Section [number] of...." what? Or did you just give the work's title? I'm trying to figure out how to organize this project.

Please also list which reader did which reading. I'm not planning on listening to the files, but will leave that to a proof-listener.

Apologies for my confusion. I'll provide the text links to each piece (all different pieces and authors) and the handle of which of us reads which file below. The pieces are all different authors and standalone short poems or stories by each, and are only associated loosely by the art for art's sake theme of the anthology, etc. The Whistler piece is standalone, and each piece by its different author is contained within the texts of the books linked hereafter, thanks again.

All the sources check out, except I don't like the last one (George Meredith), as they don't give source information. Also, it's different than the poem I found on another, clearly-PD-source site: https://www.bartleby.com/246/681.html

I'd like to use this source because it's clearly PD, which would mean a re-record because it's a little different. But wait a bit on that to see if there's anything else that needs editing on the file.

OK, I think this is all set up and entered into the Magic Window

Prospective proof-listener: the file names are incorrect; we'll work on that later. They all pass Checker aside from the file names. Please check everything else (standard PL). :)

Thanks again. Much better source, but I'm not sure how to redo the Meredith with accent stressed apostrophes etc, the words seem the same, but I guess I would say them shorter?

You can say them the same, IMHO.

I noticed one line that was different - I didn't study it line by line, so there may have been other differences:

Now his huge bulk o’er Africa careen’d,

vs.

Now his huge bulk o'er Afric's sands careened,
