No, I'm afraid not. It was used twice. If I remember correctly it was part of the discussion where the young Beethoven served on 'probation' and was seen a bit as a marvel while the organ master was away. Ludwig at the harpsichord for the opera rehearsals? It just struck me as strange. You know, it may come from the Latin 'vice.' He---Ludwig---was serving as a designated replacement.
