A fascinating effort - to build such a big and complex structure as transcontinental railway!

Okay, here's the final chapter: Chapter 30, Review and Prophecy.
https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/californiaamericanperiod_30_cleland_128kb.mp3
Duration 16:28 Volume 90.38
Frankly, this chapter is a big disappointment for me, and an unhappy way to end an otherwise marvelous book. I find the blatantly racist opinions Dr. Cleland expressed in his "prophecy" offensive and inappropriate for a work of history. I've read it "as written," but had to hold my nose while I did so.
Oh, but let's be positive! We've finally reached the end of this effort. Yea, Team!

That's me!
Actually we could arrange that as well, but that's new deal. How about the old deal - me relaxing in the evenings with some piece of stitching or knitting AND your voice reading something to me??? (Like in the Addams family movie, do you know the scene? "That's a new business and we do not talk about new business untiiiil the... next quarter!" )How about you read the next one and I listen?
It need not be right away of course, good book has to be found, but just think of it...
Meanwhile, section 27 and 28 are PL OK!

So, chapters 29 and 30 are both OK! Finished it is!!!! Congratulations!!!!!
Anyway, this was a good book. I enjoyed it very much! Million thanks for reading it, Steve!
Yes, the prophecy added no value to the book... I actually found some of those opinions close to funny. Just imagine, those unruly "un-americanized europeans" threatening the culture of California, like some hordes of barbarians the ancient empire of Rome.Steven Seitel wrote: ↑July 31st, 2019, 12:00 pm

Terrific! That was fast. Thank you, Kristine, for being such a good listener, and thank you, Tricia, for pulling it all together. It was a fun read.
