Number 2 sounds good, if by have another LVer read it you mean edit in a small audio clip? It does look like this is the only body of French text in the book. The author's name is there, but I think I can work through that using online pronunciation resources.

How do we find an assistance for this one small line?

Bonjour craigdav1,

I'm an actual French, born and raised, and saw on the Thread 'Help with French, please--The French pronunciation thread' that you needed help with a line.
I would love to do that for you if you want. But I'm new and wondered if you wanted maybe to check my 1-Minute Test first to see if my voice is not too different from your other reader, in order to not bother the listener too much if the difference is too jarring.

Yes. before recording the passage please do a one-minute test. It's just to make sure your "audio specs" meet out requirements. Our files are hosted by Archive.org and they are very picky about these things. Thanks in advance.

I notice that your test recording has received a PL OK. If you are still interested in recording the passage below just add the link to that recording in this thread. To get the link upload the file to my folder (craigdav1) per the instructions on the first page of this thread.

"La Liberté," says Mr. Emile Faguet, in the preface to his "Politiques et Moralistes du Dix-Neuvième Siècle"—"La Liberté s'oppose à l'Égalité, car La Liberté est aristocratique par essence. La Liberté ne se donne jamais, ne s'octroie jamais; elle se conquiert. Or ne peuvent la conquérir que des groupes sociaux qui out su se donne la cohérence, l'organisation et la discipline et qui par conséquent, sont des groupes aristocratiques."

Hello,

I just recorded the line, and I was wondering how you would like me to name the file?
I was going to name it promiseofamericanlife_28Fr_croly_128kb.mp3 but I wanted to check with you first.

Thanks

Thank you for this. I will be putting it together with my audio soon to see how it fits together, but I noticed another section (29 - The Bridge between Democracy and Nationality) which is in French.
As M. Faguet says in the introduction to his "Politiques et Moralistes du
Dix-Neuvième Siècle," from which I have already quoted: "Liberté et Égalité
sont donc contradictoires et exclusives l'une et l'autre; mais la Fraternité
les concilierait. La Fraternité non seulement concilierait la Liberté et
l'Égalité, mais elle les ferait gêneratrices l'une et l'autre." The two
subordinate principles, that is, one representing the individual and the other
the social interest, can by their subordination to the principle of human
brotherhood, be made in the long run mutually helpful.
I took a little different process to looking for non-English this time. The Gutenberg text lists at the bottom alphabetically who Croly quotes from - every other author appears to be quoted in English. I apologize about the added surprise. Luckily these are short lines.

Do you want me to redo what I already did? Or do I make a separate file just for that?
