{SOLO} A Bachelor's Dream by Mrs. Hungerford (1855 - 1897).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/a-bachelors-dream-by-mrs-hungerford/
This is a wonderfully written novel by Mrs. Hungerford about the perennial bachelor and the various interests in his life, where he is a doctor by trade. From taking care of his sister's children to a possible love on the horizon, the author keeps us on our toes in this quick read of a book with its many unexpected twists and turns!
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/27838/pg27838.html
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:

    • Say:
"A Bachelor's Dream by Mrs. Hungerford. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of A Bachelor's Dream by Mrs. Hungerford. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of A Bachelor's Dream by Mrs. Hungerford. "

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename bachelorsdream_##_hungerford_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. bachelorsdream_01_hungerford_128kb.mp3)

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)

    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)

hello, I have not completed a solo project, but this length is appealing and about as long as my last narration submitted. I'd like to go ahead with it.

Thank you,

Hi racquelolea -

This is my solo project. If you want to do a solo you need to look for a book that is in the public domain. There are also book suggestions in the forum "Book Suggestions". From there you search in Librivox to see if it has been recorded and if not then you can follow the instructions in this forum to set up a solo. Everything in this forum on the Launch Pad is either a Solo that someone is doing, which they set up themselves and are waiting for an MC to set up the Magic Window for them or they are Group projects which you can join, just getting going. I hope this helps you!

Now you have posted in this forum you might want to unfollow it so you do not get messages everytime Helen and I post messages :)

All set.

I suggest editing the summary before cataloging. Thank you!

Hiya, this project is a solo project, so it cannot be claimed. Since you are still new to librivox, it would be best to continue with group projects for a little longer :) please let me know if you have any questions!

Hi Helen -

The heat in Vancouver is manageable - not too hot for me! That is the nice thing about being 1 block from the ocean...

I have edited Chapter 1 and 3 now and it is back to you for Spot PL now :)

Hi Helen -

Well, Section 5 is done and in the MW - I recorded Section 5 and 7 today (but I will do 6 and then submit 7 so you can hear the story in sequence) however my mic was giving me trouble and the sound is off. I hope it will be okay sounding - I worked adding base so I do not sound too much like a chipmunk!
