Can someone double-check the text in Chapter 12?

There is only one entry for Mrs. Leverett: But I feel like this paragraph doesn't make any sense.

"MRS. LEVERETT: "Have you hung up your cloak, Doris? Are you sure you know your spelling? I do wonder if you will ever get those tables perfect! The idea of such a big girl not knowing how to knit a stocking! Don't sit there looking into the fire and dreaming, Doris; attend to your book. Jimmie boy is away ahead of you in some things.""

Should it be separated into 6 phrases?:

MRS. LEVERETT:
"Have you hung up your cloak, Doris?
Are you sure you know your spelling?
I do wonder if you will ever get those tables perfect!
The idea of such a big girl not knowing how to knit a stocking!
Don't sit there looking into the fire and dreaming, Doris; attend to your book.
Jimmie boy is away ahead of you in some things."
A hundred times a day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the measure as I have received and am still receiving.

It is a little odd, but that is how the original text has it. I think you could put little pauses between the phrases as if she’s pausing to do something in between each phrase. I think the author wants us to think of her hurrying and trying to get Doris to bed so she’s kind of jumping from idea to idea.

I don't mean to make things difficult, but I think that the little girl is remembering all that Mrs. Leverett has said to her. And she is remembering it all as a rush of thought as she lies there in bed. So I think the reading should be swift, but not racing. It is a good idea for Mrs. L to read these lines, but it could be Doris just as well.
