Hi from South Africa

Hi everyone

My name is Ananda but my narrator name is Delta.

I speak Afrikaans and English.

Funny enough, when I initially joined LibriVox, Kayray from the admin team suggested that I find Afrikaans books in the public domain. Something I didn't think to do. But it send me on a search and rescue quest. Sadly, with fruitless results thus far. If anyone of you know where I can continue my search for public domain Afrikaans books, I would be ever grateful.

In the meantime, I look forward to become part of the narrators team for LibriVox.

I am a bookkeeper by day. I am a reader, writer and listener of stories. To this day I love radio dramas and book narration on radio. You can hear my hubby and kiddos roll their eyes at me when I sit next to the radio, listening to the stories. I never thought though that it might be possible for me to also narrate books and have others read it with their ears. I've signed up for LibriVox to pay forward the love of stories, to develop my skill as narrator and who knows, make somebody happy!

Hi there and welcome to LV!

It's cool that you can speak two languages, the more, the merrier! Unfortunately, it will be rather difficult to find material in Afrikaans that we can accept for LV.

We can only accept texts that were published before 1924 (next year it will 1925, in two years "before 1926", you get the idea), because they need to be in the public domain in the US.

Plus, we expect you to adhere to the copyright of the country you're living in - South Africa has a copyright term of year of death of the author + 50 years.

Yes, I know... copyright...

We have a number of sites with online material that we accept outright, but even so, it will be difficult to find texts in Afrikaans. Our main site for texts, gutenberg.org, has a whooping 4 books in Afrikaans at the moment: http://www.gutenberg.org/browse/languages/af
but there are also archive.org and hathitrust.org where you can search.

So, as for finding texts in Afrikaans, it will probably be difficult. We do have a greater number of Dutch projects, but I don't know how easy it would be for you to contribute there.

I believe there are some PD books in Afrikaans on archive.org.
