Hi Anne -

I found this:

https://www.rarebooks.co.nz/pages/books/008707/edith-howes/the-cradle-ship

and

I found it on Amazon with a quick online search.

https://www.amazon.com/CRADLE-SHIP-Edith-Howes/dp/B0015ZVQH0

I used the keywords edith howes the cradle ship.

More - next day - I haven't found any digitised versions of the book. I tried the NZ National Library which usually has links to other places in NZ if it has been digitised.

Good luck

Gail

Thanks for looking Gail - I found an undated scan in a pdf which had no publication date, and then I found on another page there was list of editions ending with a 1941 one and it's really hard to convince myself it was published in 1923 or earlier :D Pity - it is such a well written book, she must have been a great teacher.

Hi -

Here is Chapter 31

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/queensnecklace_33_dumas_128kb.mp3
8:33.7, 90.3 dB

This book just keeps getting sillier and sillier. But then, that is Dumas.

Speaking of weather - it may be early July but we just had a 23C day.

Thanks for listening

33 PL OK.

My first "Dumas." We have been setting rainfall records every month it seems. The farmers are very cranky. Too wet to plant and now too late.

Hi --

Chapter 32 has been uploaded.

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/queensnecklace_34_dumas_128kb.mp3
12:07.3, 89.3 dB

I remember the heavy rain that could be May in Indiana, but now it is July and the corn should be "as high as an elephant's eye". Thinking globally, if the midwest can't produce the usual amount of commodity grain and legumes it will be a bad thing for the world food supplies. I'm surprised that NZ media haven't covered this story. NZ loves a good bad weather story.

Thanks

34 PL OK.

I think it won't become really big news until harvest time. Yields could be high and keep prices low. Or not.
