Vagabond Adventures by Ralph Keeler (1840 - 1873).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/vagabond-adventures-by-ralph-keeler/
Ralph Keeler failed as a novelist, but this autobiography reflects a life well-lived with humor and adventure. Keeler was in the same literary circle as satirist Bret Harte, novelist Charles Warren Stoddard, editor Thomas Bailey Aldrich, and essayist William Dean Howells. He so impressed Mark Twain that Twain wrote an essay about him called "Ralph Keeler". In 1873, on his way to Cuba, he reportedly was thrown overboard by a Spanish loyalist who objected to his backing of the revolutionary, anti-Spanish movement. Note: This work contains language no longer acceptable in our culture, but at the time of writing was considered colloquial and accepted for common usage. Thanks to Neglectedbooks.com for shining a light on this work. (John Greenman)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/58982
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): wordperfect

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I won't be starting this for a few weeks as I complete 'My Mark Twain".
However...here's a good picture of Keeler to use:

So, the MW is up and ready for you. I will leave this topic here for a day or two in hopes of snaring a DPL and then move it to Solos.

Welcome aboard Colleen!!!
As you’ve probably already read, above, we won’t be getting really up to speed on this for a couple of weeks. I’m going to be finishing another project first. But wanted to get my dibs in on this one, early.
😆🙂

That's perfect -- I'm winding down a PL project that should be finished by then so it will work out nicely.
