The Book of Irish Poetry, Part I edited and translated by Alfred Perceval Graves (1846 - 1931).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-book-of-irish-poetry-by-various/

Edited and largely translated into English by Alfred Perceval Graves, this book contains a remarkably large collection of Irish poetry. Part 1 of the Irish Poetry includes the poems in the sections Irish Nature Poetry, Irish Wonder Poetry, Irish Love Poetry, and Irish War Poetry. ( Elsie Selwyn)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/cu31924013512482/page/n7
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

MC and DPL most welcome! :D

Please note for the prospective DPL, I will read the introduction (and since it is so long) I will use the normal LibriVox disclaimer. However, all the other sections will use the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer.

How will I ever keep up with your good ideas?

I will do all the religious poems, if you like. (I will probably make time for all the war poems, too.)

 I’m glad you find my projects fun! I’ll put you down for the religious ones once the MW is up.

Hi, Elsie!
I would like to MC this, but first we'll have to find a suitable solution for this project. The thing is, that there seems to be a limit to how many sections a project can have and that limit is somewhere around 250. In any case, 312 sections won't do. So there are two possible options. One is to combine some of the poems together to reduce section count (which, in my opinion would not really suit this project, as the poems are not all of one author).
The other solution would be to divide the project in two parts: The Book of Irish Poetry edited by Alfred Perceval Graves, Part I and The Book of Irish Poetry edited by Alfred Perceval Graves, Part II. You could divide the book in two about the middle - before "Irish national poetry" for example and put only the first part up in this project. Once this is full, you could launch the second part. Of course, mention the division in project description and all that.
What do you think?

Kristine :)
Keep your mind here and now, where it belongs.

Okay! Splitting it into 2 volumes seems like a reasonable solution. Hold on while I count how many sections that would be if we cut off at “Irish National Poetry”.

It would be 163 sections - updating project description now.

Edit: Project description updated.

Oh also, Alfred Perceval Graves is a new author in the LibriVox catalog (I think). I don’t know if that means any extra work for you.

Technically he is not the author of the poems, just the editor. If he did translate some or most of them, we can add him as translator. Is that correct - did he translate? But the author would be "various" anyway.
This here is a similar example of a poetry book by different authors and one editor (also divided in two parts, BTW): https://librivox.org/the-worlds-best-poetry-volume-1-part-2/
It lists the editor in the description, the author is various, and the author of each individual poem is shown in the section title. I think it would be good to keep to this style here as well.

Putting up the MW in few minutes.
Keep your mind here and now, where it belongs.

Good point. He did translate a lot of these poems according to the introduction in the book so I would label him as translator. How do I change him over to the translator?

Added Graves as translator.

EDIT: He can remain as editor here in the forum post and project name. It really does not matter. The main point is, that in the catalog system he will show up as the translator - when we get to cataloging. :)
