The Search by Grace Livingston Hill (1865 - 1947).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-search-by-grace-livingston-hill/

“On the day the drafted men march away, Ruth MacDonald catches John Cameron's eye and waves to him. In the excitement of the moment they both forget the social barriers that lie between them and only remember they were schoolmates as children. From this a friendship develops that has far-reaching results. To Ruth, spoiled daughter of the rich, comes a new conception of life, of war, of love. To John comes tests of fire before he finds himself. Here is the absorbing romance of two people who searched through the devious paths of a warring world for fulfillment and happiness.” - Dust Jacket, 1919 Edition

Note: Chapter numbering skips XI, like the original chapter numbering in the first edition.
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/25866
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Thank you. :)

Kind of strange, the original (as on gutenberg) edition chapter numbering skips Chapter 11, so I think I'll keep it that way since gutenberg did. So, that's not a typo, I meant to do it.

The Kindle edition is also missing a chapter numbered 11. Many positive reviews and no mention of any missing text. You should note the absence though at the end of the book summary.

Chapter 1 ready for PL.

:) Don't be afraid to give me any sort of feedback.

PS - Do you think the two male voices are too much alike and confusing?

Section 1 is PL OK

I was a little confused at first, but then figured it out from context. If you want to distinguish them more, you might give Wainwright a sneery drawl since he doesn’t seem all that nice of a fellow (actually kind of reminds me of Malfoy from Harry Potter  )

Thanks. :)

I don't actually think there are any more chapters with just two men talking the whole time. I'll probably wait until I run across more dialogue for these guys and then decided whether I'll make any changes to the first chapter.

No problem - I think it’s fine as it is now.
