The Voyage Out by Virginia Woolf (1882 - 1941).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-voyage-out-by-virginia-woolf-2/

Rachel Vinrace embarks for South America on her father's ship and is launched on a course of self-discovery in a kind of modern mythical voyage. The mismatched jumble of passengers provide Woolf with an opportunity to satirise Edwardian life. The novel introduces Clarissa Dalloway, the central character of Woolf's later novel, Mrs Dalloway. Two of the other characters were modelled after important figures in Woolf's life. St John Hirst is a fictional portrayal of Lytton Strachey and Helen Ambrose is to some extent inspired by Woolf's sister, Vanessa Bell. Rachel's journey from a cloistered life in a London suburb to freedom, challenging intellectual discourse and discovery very likely reflects Woolf's own journey from a repressive household to the intellectual stimulation of the Bloomsbury Group. • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

That would be great! I think I'll be going slowly on this one... more thoughtful than exciting or dramatic :hmm:

Hi Lynne, sorry for being so tardy, but I had visitors (for weeks on end).

At 26:03 there seemd to be something missing, it didn't make a lot of sense to me as it is, so I checked the book.

A whole chunk is missing between 'idea': and 'any real talent'...

of a system in modern life—none of this had been imparted to her by any of her professors or mistresses. But this system of education had one great advantage. It did not teach anything, but it put no obstacle in the way of

Otherwise it's fine. :)

Strange that I missed that :hmm: It’ll be at least a week before I get to it. We are headed back north this week and I have already dismantled my recording studio (and am currently procrastinating in the mopping of floors  — the maid seems to have taken the day off )

I have uploaded chapter 4.

I'm skipping 3 for now as there is a passage of Greek... I've asked for help on it.

I have uploaded chapter 2 -- I hope you're not a Greek scholar, as I totally butchered the Greek passage  I managed to get it written out phonetically, but still, I'm not at all sure about it  I just hope I didn't inadvertently say something rude
