I am doing some research on computer generated images. I suspect what makes fantasy characters look so "fantastic" is that everything is a little askew, thus surreal. I also suspect that nowadays, with all the games and kids creating surreal art, there are numerous programs and unlimited data banks to draw from. If you know anything about this, or can provide links to programs, aps, and sources, please share.

Thank you! :)

Regarding 3D computer-generated pictures, I did some reading on this a while back, as far as it applies to models creating using DAZ 3D software. You can read their EULA here.

I'm no lawyer, but the use of two-dimensional images (in other words, a flattened picture), seems pretty permissible:
Terms of Use. Two Dimensional Works. Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, User may (i) access, use, copy and modify the Content in the creation and presentation of two-dimensional animations and renderings, (ii) incorporate two dimensional images (including two dimensional images that simulate motion of three dimensional objects) derived by User from the Content in User’s other works, and (iii) publish, market, distribute, transfer, sell or sublicense User’s two-dimensional animations, renderings and other works; provided that User may not in any case publish, market, distribute, transfer, sell or sublicense any renderings, animations, software applications, data or any other product from which any Content, or any part thereof, or any substantially similar version of the Content can be separately exported, extracted or de-compiled into any re-distributable form or format.

i know of blender, a free software available for linux, win, mac etc - but to be honest, i do think it is too complicated (while i never even tried to use it).
blender is a rendering software for
Whether you are an animator, modeler, VFX, game developer, 3D Printing, you name it. Blender's got you covered.

here are the several use cases: https://www.blender.org/features/
its open source and totally free, what i know (also the products)

i have heard of software, which doesnt allow the use of its products for every case....
i think, we have a problem, when we have to evaluate the softwares tos and try to understand each paragraph, wether or what is twodimensional in their thinking, and so on..

It's a difficult image to use well though as a square, and ones just dumped in the middle of a square often lack something. Whoever claims the cover is free to use anything they fancy.
Of course you could always just stretch it sideways :roll. Just like the Youtube person does.

It's not something I would do , but it's easy to get carried away with the fun it would be to have the cover for the child without thinking of the slime crawling about the internet , particlarly here where most people are helpful and nice without expecting anything in return.

We don't accept any post 1923 images on the covers unless they have a clear PD label - that means CC0 , and they also must not include any recognisable people or any products with may be trademarked (the photographer can not give away rights of other people )

from a post in the working thread
Peter Why wrote: June 2nd, 2019, 11:52 pm In the opening post, the link to the youtube video for Origami cases is "unavailable":
Have you heard about the Origami paper cases?
I absolutely love them. They are so handy and easy to make.

Watch a YouTube video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tP94jiYlao&feature=player_embedded

Anyone know of an alternative link?

Hurlbut's Life of Christ For Young and Old
Jesse Lyman HURLBUT (1843 - 1930)

--> beautiful cover anne!

--> regarding the video: was the video for creating a origami cover or for folding it?
this video is for a blank sheet of paper, but could do it as a tutorial?

(to make a tutorial myself will be a summer project, but i could do a stop motion animated gif, i think... meanwhile we could even link to the search results page, since there is a ton of videos in several languages.

I print out and fold Origami CD Cases for each cover I design. The video is OK but I found the steps are hard to master via video and blank paper. So here's the link to a print out document I created with a step by step on how to do it, and the final result.
https://archive.org/details/EasyFoldingInstructionsForOrigamiCdCase-WithPictures_23

Also, here's the template I designed years ago to go with that, which contains all 3 options for CD case use: 1. Origami paper case, 2. CD Case Insert (front cover only) 3. CD Case Insert with side flaps (back of case). Just plug in the data from the catalogued project and your artwork, per instructions, and it's done.
For some reason IA doesn't display a preview, but you can download it as a document to your computer.
