What is posted above will have to be modified, of course, to fit the particular circumstances. The template was very helpful, but not entirely comprehensive. (Or perhaps it's simply my ignorance.)

Would this concept, at least, be a possibility? I'd be most willing to apply myself to its success.

EDIT:

It may be that a reader would prefer being given suggestions as to what might be recorded.

As an example, any chapter from Domestic Manners of the Americans, by Fanny Trollope, is interesting.

Another suggestion would be any letter from Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's collection Rambles in Germany and Italy.

I can help you with this, Kevin. As you say, the template doesn't really satisfy the requirements of a collection like this, but it's a starting point. Would you want it something like a Coffee Break Collection, only with longer pieces (Coffee Breaks are 15 minutes or less)?

I have set up the MW.
Are you planning to DPL yourself or ask someone else?

You will need to edit the first post. You can click on the pencil at the top right to do that.
I suggest looking at a Coffee Break Collection to see how I edited that: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=74637&hilit=coffee+break
Although there is no text, you may wish to point readers in the direction of a few possible texts (maybe by searching Project Gutenberg).
You say there is a limit of 70 minutes... please make that a hard limit. We have found listeners tend to prefer sections under 60 minutes long.
It would be a good idea to shorten the file name -- shorter names invite fewer errors! (travelcollection01 would be ideal but your choice, just don't change it once the files start coming in). Note there are two places you need to change it.

We will also need details of the author and text to add to the metadata. If its a well-known author who is already in the catalogue, we just need the name, but if it's "Joe Smith", we need more info, so he can be added.
I think that's it for now, but if you have questions, please ask!

Hmm I just see you set this up as a solo... was that intentional?

Solo? No, that was my mistake. Apologies.

What I would like is that various people contribute just one section for each collection. Would that be all right?

And I can set the upper time limit to an hour if that's what you recommend.

I thought I would give PLing a try and will stick to it through this collection. If a second collection is permitted, or desired, then I may ask for further help at that time.

I have added you as DPL, so you shouldn't get a flurry of volunteers  I suggest you read this guide if you haven't already https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Guide_for_Proof-listeners

I have also changed the project to collaborative and edited the first post accordingly. The intro and outro are different for solos; and you also want different information in a collection. You can edit the wording if you don't like it, but that's basically what you need.

As I have recorded the first piece, might someone volunteer to PL, please?
If no one else volunteers, I should be able to PL tomorrow.
In the meantime, you have more work to do! You need to enter the metadata...
In the section compiler (the MW), alongside each section, you will see a magnifying glass on the left hand side. Click on that and you get a grid at the top (it always appears at the top, even when adding later sections). Start typing the author's last name and if your guy's name comes up, click on it and he will be added to the metadata. Then copy and paste the text link into the "source" box and hit 'add'. Don't worry about the other boxes... they get filled in at cataloguing.
If your guy's name doesn't show, still add the source, and let me know. I will have to add him to the catalog... which is why I will need all the info I can get, so I add the right person. A Wikipedia link is the most helpful.
You will need to do that each time a section is submitted. It makes it searchable, so someone listens to something by Howells and says "I wonder what else he wrote?"...

If you add text suggestions to the first post, they won't get lost in the thread 8-)
