Ya, I have a bacterial infection in my throat so I do not feel like doing much. Perfect opportunity to pl! And these 'sketches' are just perfection!

Yes, I love Dickens' sense of humor. And he's basically describing scenes around London two centuries ago, so the sketches are of historical interest as well as humorous.

Sorry for the delay on more sections. "Real life" is getting in the way.

At last I had some time to get some sections done! Although this coming week promises to be busy too.

And those three are PL OK!
This book reminds me a little of The Pickwick Papers!
I always enjoy it when Dickens goes on some random rant against something like bed couches

Just checking in. Work and "real life" still occupying a part of my time. I hope to get back at this project later this week.

I had some time to get a couple more sections completed today, four in total since my last submission. This brings me to the end of the "Scenes" portion of the book. Next will be twelve sections of "Characters."

Most of the earlier sketches have been told by Dickens with a humorous edge to the descriptions. The last two, "Criminal Courts" and "A Visit to Newgate," seem to be much more serious in tone, especially the latter, considering the subject matter, especially when he gets to the condemned section of the prison. I'm guessing he could not bear the thought of taking the topic too lightly. This might also be why it is much longer than most of the sections in this book (it is the longest thus far, but I know there are some even longer sections once I get to the "Tales" part. It is also interesting to compare it to the Newgate scenes in "Barnaby Rudge," written the better part of two decades later, though set much earlier.

Anyway, on to "Characters..."

Icequeen, have you heard from fiddlesticks at all? She seems to have been inactive for a long time.

I know that she was on vacation for about a week, and she stated in another project that she is back and catching up as quickly as she can. The last time she was on the forum was June 16, so she is still here.
