Sketches by Boz by Charles Dickens (1812 - 1870).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/sketches-by-boz-version-2-by-charles-dickens/
A collection of early writings of Charles Dickens under his early pseudonym, "Boz." They first appeared in various publications from 1833 to 1836. Divided into four sections, "Our Parish," "Scenes," "Characters," and "Tales." The first three sections are descriptions of various people and places, and the final section contains fictional short stories. ( )
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/882
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Your MW is ready for you, Brad! Since this is version 2, I put a v2 in the file name, just to keep things straight. As soon as I know that everyone is on board, I will move us.

Thank you.

Looking ahead, I know that some of the sections are going to be quite long, especially in the latter half when the short stories begin. I seem to recall being told a couple of years back that the maximum length for a section is seventy minutes. Do I recall that correctly, and if so, is it still the rule? I don't know if any section will be that long, but just in case, I might have to add another section or two.

Yes, the max is around 70 minutes, but the absolute max is 75 minutes. That way, you have a little buffer in how long a section can be.

Okay, thanks. I just looked at Version One, which I see was read by many readers. And I noticed that they did split up one long chapter near the end--although the combined times would only have been about one hour. Anyway, I know that I do tend to read a bit quicker than most of the other readers, so maybe I won't have to divide a section after all. But we will see.

So, how many of my twenty-four (and there will be one or two more later today) completed sections would you like at once? :)

When I first started reading sections of this book a year or so ago, I was anticipating what the file names would be. Of course, I didn't anticipate the "v2." Oh well, a small matter to add that.

Actually, don't worry about changing the file name. I can do that when I catalog very easily.
