Measure for Measure (version 3) by William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616).
This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/measure-for-measure-version-3-by-william-shakespeare/
<i>Measure for Measure</i> is one of William Shakespeare's more enigmatic works. As one of the so-called "problem plays," it mixes a dark plot with light overtones, without resolving the tensions inherent in either. Its central conflict is spurred on when the Duke of Vienna, Vincentio, confers his powers on the law-abiding judge Angelo before leaving on a diplomatic mission. In reality, Vincentio has merely disguised himself as a lowly friar to watch Angelo's rule from afar—a rule that is quickly characterized by its overzealous cruelty and harshness. When Angelo has a man condemned to death for fornication, the man's sister, a pious novitiate named Isabella, intercedes on his behalf and begs Angelo for leniency. It is through this encounter that Angelo's true self emerges, as well as the play's presiding themes of moral justice, civil corruption, and the neverending conflict between the powers of sin and virtue. Can Isabella thwart Angelo's wicked intentions? Will the Duke restore peace and sanity in Vienna? Will compassion prevail? Take a listen, for all will be revealed.<br><br>And to perform it all? Three men (<a href="https://librivox.org/reader/11305">Craig Franklin</a>, <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/10789">Tomas Peter</a>, and <a href="https://librivox.org/reader/9905">Brad "Hamlet" Filippone</a>) and one woman (<a href="https://librivox.org/reader/10179">Sonia</a>), determined to give you a performance of Shakespeare's work that you will never forget. You thought you knew your Shakespeare? Well, think again! ( Tomas Peter)

Here is my DP and my two one-scene roles:

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/measureformeasure_dp_brad.mp3
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/measureformeasure_friarthomas_1_3.mp3
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/measureformeasure_barnardine_4_3.mp3

For Barnardine I did my two "within" lines with the mic slightly further away than the other lines. Also, since he is being awakened by Pompey, I started the first speech with a bit of a snoring sound as he is jarred awake. If the snore is not wanted, I can redo it, of course. Or, conversely, I can do more snoring, and it can begin under Pompey's previous line. Whichever works best.

I love the snoring !! We'll definitely keep that in  Also the effect of the microphone for within is extremely well done. A great start on your roles, Brad. Friar Thomas sounds like a schoolboy compared to ruffian Barnadine  he'll eat him for breakfast.

All three parts PL ok so far.

I also have my small parts recorded and need to edit still. :)

Thanks, Sonia. Very small files to check, and both are PL OK. Your messenger seems like a kind lad. I don't think he's at all aware of the machinations going on at this point. :P

was I too nice ? :?

Well here is another shorty, but funny role. Mrs Overdone. I made her voice very shrilly, especially because I have to speak to myself as Escalus  She feels so wronged all the time

Narrator comes next and then I have the easy roles out of the way...

I'll just Elbow my way in here.

I've always felt that Elbow is related to Dogberry of Much Ado About Nothing. So, when we eventually get to THAT play... :D

That takes care of my small roles.

Should I be making note of the length of the files? Half the time I forget to.

no it's ok, I do it out of habit. Maybe later on in the finished assembled scenes, it would be good to have them. But here in the parts, we don't note them down

here are the stage directions for Act 2 and I finished theshort scene for Juliet. I made her voice very young and not too bright ;) I had to differentiate her from the other more important female roles. I am still not decided how I will make those two :? Gonna leave those for last.
