The Wasters by Arthur Adams (1872 - 1936).
Here we have a serious family drama by Australian playwright Arthur Adams about legacy and responsibilities, with some question about exactly who exactly the Wasters in society are. "No; you produce nothing, you spend everything; you do nothing, you waste everything. You're parasites, useless parasites.... Parasites, inefficients, wasters, wasters!" "We may be parasites, but you have made us parasites. We may be wasters, but you prey on us."
To highlight the growing tensions, it includes comic second act scenes placed in the women's undergarment department of the family store.
(ToddHW)
  • Quite different from Adams's play "The Premier and Mrs Pretty" that we just finished - although it is published in the same book.

Gender neutral casting as always, and the former Mrs Pretty - er, Kitty - will be your long suffering DPL

This project is complete. All audio files may be found on our catalog page at https://librivox.org/the-wasters-by-arthur-adams/

    1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!):
      https://archive.org/details/threeplaysforaus00adamiala/page/n9
      https://ia802701.us.archive.org/31/items/threeplaysforaus00adamiala/threeplaysforaus00adamiala.pdf
    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

DPL and Stage director reporting for business :)

Let's do another Aussie-play. I heard from Chris that Mrs Pretty has got quite a solid number of hits in the first week online. 8-) Probably massive support from Down-Under.

Oh my, the two characters that would fit my voice are already taken. :? Very slim pickings now since there are more females left than men. Hmm. I guess I'll somehow have to tackle Anthony Clibborn and try to sound like an old man. I'm not a big fan of doing that, but I guess I have no choice.

Hey! John Dangar was my second choice so I would love to give you Thong if that was one of the ones you preferred.

That's so nice of you, Josh! :D I think you'd be awesome as John. You've done some great work in plays so far and deserve a shot at a leading character.

So that means I relinquish Anthony and take on Lindsay, and Josh takes John. And then the MW will be accurate once more.

 don't make Todd dizzy, guys. (I'll update the MW since I'm on it right now...)

But I agree...I think you are optimally cast now.
