This is my first time reading. I'd like to read AT MIDNIGHT.

I'd be glad to have you join this project.
We do ask our new readers, however, to complete a one-minute test recording and have it approved.
Please look at Point 2 in the leading post for this project and follow the link to the Newbie Guide to Recording. There is a lot of useful information there, including instructions on how to complete the preliminary one-minute recording. It is primarily to make sure all of the technical specifications are in place.

After you have the "OK" on this, post a note here and I'll add you to the project.

Also, please let me know how you would like to be listed in the LibriVox catalog. Many of us use our real names because this is how we are credited for all of our work, but you may choose any pseudonym or nick name that you wish.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello, Silverquill,

I uploaded my test to tests. Please let me know if it was uploaded properly. I find the wealth of information overwhelming.

I'll use my name.

hello Paula

I understand that the info at the beginning can be overwhelming. But don't worry, with time this will all become clearer. And you can always ask when something is unclear.

First of all, uploading the test is not enough, you need to copy the link you received and post it in the forum, otherwise nobody will know that you uploaded it ;) Luckily you named your test with your name, so I was able to fish it out for you, here is the link: https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/test_paulamessina.mp3

Now normally you would have to create a new thread in Listeners Wanted forum, but since I had a bit of time, I checked your test and your reading is absolutely very nice and easy to understand. The basic technical settings are also totally up to LV standard.

I would only recommend a bit of noise-cleaning, because the background noise is a bit disturbing. Are you using Audacity ? If yes, here is the step-by-step to clean up:

> select a small portion where you don't speak (in your case a sample from the beginning of the file would be perfect, lots of noise without speech)
> go to Effect - Noise Reduction
> first select Get Noise Profile
> then highlight the entire recording
> again Effect - Noise Reduction
> now select OK

Could you try to do that to your recording please ? No need to re-record, simply try out the Audacity function. :) Then reupload to the test folder and post the new link here and I (or Larry, if I'm not in) will have another look. I think you will be ready to roll then.

104 and 112 are PL OK.

101:

0:09, 0:36, 1:03, 1:31: As it says in the first post: "NOTE: Do not read the Roman numerals."
2:02: Ending silence is far too short. It should be about 5 seconds, but yours is less than 3.

106:

0:00: I'm hearing 'dolse de niete' rather than 'dolce far niente' (DOL-chay far nee-EN-tay)
0:09, 0:39, 1:05, 1:32, 2:00, 2:29: Roman numerals again

Ignore this... I think I was trying to edit a previous post and ended up quoting it instead.

Hello, Kitty or Sonia,

I used the noise reduction and resubmitted the test. I think I posted the link in the right place. https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/test_paulamessina.mp3

This site is more confusing than a Chinese menu!

Thanks for your kind help with our new reader, Sonia!

And, now time to start getting my sections in.
Here are my first three. No. 16 is a duet with Nemo.

I am sorry you find it confusing. What exactly is it you find difficult, maybe we can help if you ask specific questions.

Concerning your test, you did not noticeably clean the noise. Could you maybe check what "numbers" you had in your Noise reduction settings. Or do you even use Audacity ? Otherwise my step-by-steps won't be of any help.

My cleaning numbers are the following:
Noise reduction (db): 12
Sensititvity: 6
Frequency (smoothing bands): 0
with those numbers I just managed to really get rid of most of your background noise.

Could you try the process one more time please with those numbers. Or tell me what program you use and we can find someone who can help you with that one.

Thanks, and don't worry, we're getting there. ;)

Sonia, I re-posted the test using your numbers. https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/test_paulamessina.mp3 If it didn't work, it might be my equipment. I am using audacity.

As for the site, it's not anything specific. I find the sheer volume of information overwhelming.

Thanks for your help.
