With Moore at Corunna by G. A. Henty (1832 - 1902).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/with-moore-at-corunna-by-g-a-henty/
Terrence O’Conner, Son of an officer in the “Mayo Fusiliers,” joins as an ensign when the regiment is called out to Portugal to fight the French in the Peninsular War. Terrence quickly distinguishes himself in early battles and is with Sir John Moore when that general invaded Spain. General Moore was forced to retreat to the town of Corunna where the British beat the French and then retreated on their ships without Terrence. Terrence eventually leads a band of Portuguese irregulars and creates the Minho Regiment. He rescues his cousin from a convent and is present at the fall of Oporto. Part 2 of the story is told in the sequel “Under Wellington’s Command.” (Charles P. Sapp)

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"

Welcome, Charles. Before recording their first solo we encourage readers to record at least one and hopefully more, chapters in group projects. Not only does this give the reader a sense of the time commitment involved but it also makes them more familiar with LV, how it works and some of the jargon we use. Books needing readers can be found here,

I am ready for the challenge. I have recorded A LOT of stuff to help me with my schoolwork, so I understand that it is harder than it looks. I would really like to get started on this book.

Honestly, is it really that hard to record, say, the weekly poem or some other small group project section? :)

OK, if you're that confident about this, I will MC it. But I need to know the following to do so:

Number of sections (files) this project will have (usually this is one per chapter, so how many chapters the book has):

If you are a new volunteer, how would you like your name (or pseudonym) credited in the catalog? Do you have a URL you would like associated with your name?:

The template looks OK for the intros, outros, and file naming scheme, so you may start recording while we work out setting up the project.

Before cataloging time, we'll need a public domain summary and keywords. The summary is usually written by the soloist, as most summaries online (Goodreads, Wikipedia, etc.) are under some form of copyright or creative commons license.

The book has 22 chapters and a preface.
For the catalog I would like my name as Charles P. Sapp.
Here is a summary for the book that I wrote up.

OK, thank you. I've set up the project for you.

For the preface file, instead of reading "Chapter zero" in the intro, you can simply say "preface". :)

As you're the soloist, you're in charge of updating the Magic Window.

Detailed Instructions for accessing the Magic Window can be found in the document linked here: Instructions for Soloists

Video showing how to use the Magic Window (read the above document first - it has the information on how to log in for the first time, which this does not have):
Magic Windows / Section Compiler: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOP4tcr1kl8

I've entered the first two chapters for you as an example. You can fill in the rest.

When you upload a chapter, put the file duration (mm:ss) in the Notes field and the uploaded URL into the Listen URL field, and mark the status in the last column from Assigned to Ready for PL.

Please use the file naming scheme set up in the first post: withmooreatcorunna_##_henty_128kb

The preface should be withmooreatcorunna_00_henty_128kb.mp3

This keeps all files organized and self-explanatory throughout the recording and cataloging process. :)

Yes I am still here. I will be uploading chapter 1 soon. Snow, lambing season, snow, my brother being gone for 2 weeks, snow, colds, and finally more snow have made things a little busy around here. I have got 3 chapters recorded and hope to upload a chapter a week.
