Silence at the beginning is 0,3 sec – should be between 0,5 and 1 sec.

Your voice and the flow of your reading sounds very comfortable to me, but in my opinion the recording needs to be adjusted: Basses are ok but the trebles are to high and all s-es are sounding very sharp so I would lower them. I did a change to your file and you can get it
here
and then compare your file with the ‚new‘ one. If you say that the new file sounds better then feel free to use it and upload it to librivox. (I used Audacity with the treble-/basses-adjustment, left the basses as it was and lowered the trebles by 12 db.)
Oh – and I changed the length at start to the asked length Overall length of the file doesn‘t change.

Please leave a note here if you want to change your file or not - I can give the original file an OK also...

To clarify, the 0.50.5 to 1 second rule for start silence is NOT a hard rule. Basically we want listeners to press play and hear sound when they expect it, and thats generally after 0.5 to 1 second. Perfectly fine if it is 0.01 second or even 2 seconds. What does a heartbeat of silence more or less ever really matter? thank you!

I don't know how to use the vast majority of adjustments in Audacity, and your adjustment does make it sounds a little softer, so by all means go ahead and use that one. How do you know what adjustment to make and by how much? I'm always looking to add to my editing/refining skills.

To clarify on the other point about the silence at the beginning, there actually is no adjustment needed there? Then the original time should stay the same also?

The adjustment is about 0,2 sec - that doesn't change the overall-length.

I'm just just trying / playing with the adjustments that it sounds better. There is a pre-listening-function before saving the new adjustment. But in future maybe you can prevent this by using a pop-filter at your microphon and / or try to speak with a bigger distance (and not directly) to the mic to lower the sibilant-sounds. Then there would no such technical adjustments needed I think. To much adjustments can also 'destroy' the sound of a recording.
I'm no mastermind at all with these things - it's all 'try and error'

One note about your text source. I gather from the information on the pga site that this is a reprint, but it was published in 1938, which may attract copyright in the united states. Here is a source of the 1921 version, http://www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/thenamelesscity.htm

We do not allow 1938 sources at librivox unless the public domain status of the work is verified by trusted sources (project gutenberg usa). As i said, this is hopefully a reprint with no issues, but we have to make sure. Gavenport, could you check the recording against the 1921 text?
