(Just a note so that I can refind this project.)

Here are notes for Chapter 8, The Mine by Ariphron
First, word perfectly read! Thank you. *Smile*
A few notes, related to the tech aspect of the recording:
I notice your noise level is at 39.8 dBs.
That's a little on the high side over-all, so the recording may benefit from another round of sound-cleaning. In case it is helpful to you, I include this link:
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Noise_Cleaning
One more round of cleaning MAY help reduce of some of these noted spikes in noise, as listed here.
It seemed to have cleared up after about 4 and a half minutes, so that's good! You won't have to go back over a large amount of the recording.
A tip that may be helpful:
When looking at the file at these points, you may notice some unusual patterns on the main recording line ... that will help you to locate and extract what noise reduction didn't.
:46 -:54
static or "slithering" noise ... perhaps papers shuffling?
Again at 3:40 -3:43
4:02 -4:04
4:13
When you eliminate those areas, would you also give 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording?
It's at about 3 now. 5 seconds helps with keeping the recordings separated, so that the end isn't cut off of any files before jumping to the next.
Thank you again for your contribution; if we can help you with anything here, please let us know.
Cheers!

PL for 10: The Coward by pschempf/ Phil Schempf
Yes, sir. An especially nice reading.
I am sometimes amazed the LV has such tremendous talent, freely offering their gifts.
You reading Evokes that sense.
All is PL OK+

The passages with the distracting noises (probably my shirt rubbing against the chair) were re-recorded; silence at the end extended; and noise-reduction applied to the whole file. As this was my first time using the noise-reduction filter, I would appreciate a comment on whether the settings I chose were appropriate. How did you measure the noise level?BurgundyGrace wrote: ↑March 6th, 2019, 6:39 pm I notice your noise level is at 39.8 dBs.

Chapter 8 Ariphron
Re-PL
Hello and thank you for your rapid changes!
Technical specifications can be found with:
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker
When downloaded, under Validation, you'll see Choose Validation Method. Check File Names, Technical Specifications, Waveform and Background Noise. (ID3 Metadata need not be clicked.)
You'll then drop your named file there and see what it comes up with.
Using the checker, I find that the most pertinent measures are as follows:
Volume on this recording is 86.5
Optimal levels are (86-92 dB, with a preferred average of 89).
This better ensures that the entire book is more "level" so that listeners have a more consistent experience.
You are within range here, so I'd not change it for this recording, but you may want to keep the standard in mind for other sections.
Background noise on this is at 40.0, which is still a little high ... but I don't note any huge distractions, so suggest that you not manipulate it anymore.
There is a ton of information here, that can help you with the recording aspect.
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Main_Page
If you have in-depth questions, please ask in the "Need Help? Got Advice?" forum found on the front page of the Librivox Forum.
Someone there is most likely going to be much better able to help you than would I. *Smile*
"Slithering" sounds have been nicely managed; I don't hear them and the re-do has been seamlessly inserted. Well done!
(And yes, I have a silk/satin blouse that I no longer wear while recording. I could not figure out WHAT that *NOISE* was in one of my early recordings. Amazing how much that mic picks up! And, certainly here on LV, there's a learning curve. Oh, MY! *Smile*)
Thank you for the five end seconds.
Your recording is now PL OK, Ariphron. Thanks for your reading!
Carolin ... I do not have access to the MW for this, so would you please change it to PL OK, as you did for the others? (Thank you.)

And in this section, not only does the 'singing' continue but the listener has to cope with some (home-made) foreign accents as well! (You have been warned!)
Cheers

Ahhh, I'm sorry; I was only PLing a few sections in this work since a few of you were waiting for several days for notes.
You're all still waiting for a DLP to listen to the complete work, but I shall look forward to hearing more from you on other projects if/when I have more time!
Best,
~Angelique

Hello.
I have a little time, so have PL'd Lynda's sections.
Nice job, Lynda!
Sections 4 and 14 are PL OK.
There is only one note for Section 13
5:15 Stumble
Text: that you scarcely felt
I hear: that you scar ... scarcely
Ready to listen upon your correction.
Regards,

Steve, I had some time to listen to your Section 11, which is PL OK.
Whyyyy, *perfect* singing for this piece ... and a nice comedic reading for this often brutal book!
Cheers!
