The Murder of Delicia by Marie Corelli (1855 - 1924).

The following slight and unelaborated sketch of a very commonplace and everyday tragedy will, I am aware, meet with the unqualified disapproval of the 'superior' sex. They will assert, with much indignant emphasis, that the character of 'Lord Carlyon' is an impossible one, and that such a 'cad' as he is shown to be never existed. Anticipating these remarks, I have to say in reply that the two chief personages in my story, namely, 'Lord Carlyon' and his wife, are drawn strictly from the life; and, that though both the originals have some years since departed from this scene of earthly contest and misunderstanding, so that my delineation of their characters can no longer grieve or offend either, the 'murder of Delicia' was consummated at the hands of her husband precisely in the way I have depicted it. 1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/53097
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I would like to narrate the Introduction to get this one started. That would be great! I've already done a bit of research on how to pronounce some of the unfamiliar words in Chapter One but don't want to bite off too much right now. Lets start with the Intro!

Hi Angelique,
As we talked about in PMs, you've claimed the rest of the book. This is wonderful! I will move us to Readers Found and we can go from there.
Thanks so much!
Amy :D

Thank you, Amy.
I'm looking forward to it, while noting that creating distinct RP British accents for the two primary male characters will be a learning experience.

Hello, Anthony and Amy!
Here is Chapter 1, Part 1, in at 37.24
https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/murderofdelicia_01_corelli_128kb.mp3

This was fun; a beautiful, slow read.
Well, it was fun UP unto the point where I lost the file where I had completed all of the declicks and fixed some of the spacing. *sigh*
Happens to us all at least once, I suppose.

Anthony, when you listen to this, would you please let me know if there are any spacing issues, such as between words that should obviously be connected?
I did a much quicker pass-through on the final FINAL listen, having spent 2 hours on the first pass, so ... *Smile*
I THINK I got everything, but will appreciate your extra help with this.

*THANKS* so much for your assistance!
I'll be happy to make corrections, when you can get the notes to me.
Please feel free to ask any questions as well!

Regards,
~Angelique
