Day Dreams by Rudolph Valentino (1895 - 1926).

Published in 1923, Day Dreams is a collection of poems written by Hollywood screen icon Rudolph Valentino. Authored during Valentino’s court-imposed exile from the film industry, where a protracted legal battle with Famous Players-Lasky prevented him from acting, this collection channels much of the actor’s fear, frustration, desire, and his all-encompassing need for escapism. In his own words, this collection helped Valentino "forget the tediousness of worldly strife and the boredom of jurisprudence's pedantic etiquette." This fascinating piece of Hollywood ephemera gives us a snapshot of the famed "Latin Lover" at his most mediative and romantic. (ChuckW)
  • This project is complete. All audio files may be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/day-dreams-by-rudolph-valentino/

    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/daydreams00vale/page/n11
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

A couple of notes--

1) Since this is such a short project, I'm 100% okay acting as my own DPL if the need arises. I will, however, need someone to listen to my own recordings.

2) I have already recorded the Introduction/Preface, Money, Erin, Radio, and The Kaleidoscope of Love. I might also take more, but will wait to see what else gets claimed first. :-)

3) For those interested, Valentino wrote one other book during this period: a fitness guide. This might be a pretty good solo project, if anyone out there is looking for one.

I'd like to claim 5, 11, 18, 30, 32, 39, 44 and 56. :)

I'm also wondering if some poems are not in the MW? For instance, "You" and "Day Dreams" seem to be missing. :hmm:

Oh, crud. Thanks for pointing that out. I think I got thrown off by the fact that there are two poems entitled "You" in this collection. :?

Thanks for helping out, Tomas! Please make sure I gave you the right sections, as the order of everything kinda shifted.

Todd: I also noticed some pretty big typos in the plot summary, which I've now fixed.
