I am bad at explaining, I am afraid, but that is about how I feel it.

I have heard more than one case, while listening to LV audiobooks, where passages in another language is done by other voice and edited in. I think it is the best solution in a case when there is more than just one-two words and the reader is not sure about the pronunciation.
I think you explain it very clearly, Kristine. Thank you.

Ezwa has recorded two of the French phrases for me, and I've plugged them into Chapter 5 in place of my English translations. I need one more (which I've requested) and then I can wrap up the chapter.

Only one to go, and it's a short one. I should get to it tomorrow.

I agree with Steven, you did a great job of explaining Kiki.

All of our information on how-to (either step-by-step or policy) can be found in the Librivox Wiki.

Last chapter (08) The Ethics of Desecration. Duration: 13:35 Volume: 88.39 dB

https://librivox.org/uploads/dlolso21/tutankhamen_08_smith_128kb.mp3

If this one is OK, then all that's left is getting the French phrases right in Chapter 05. Still awaiting help on that.

An interesting book . . .

Steve

PS Kristine, do you prefer to go by Kiki or Kristine?

Uh, oh....I found a problem. In six of eight chapters, I referred to the author as Sir GEORGE Elliot Smith, when it should be Sir GRAFTON Elliot Smith. Chapters 00 and 02 got it right; all the others are wrong.

My carelessness, and I will fix.

I've patched the raw files and made new mp3s. I'll upload and paste these into the Magic Window shortly. Only very slight changes (or none at all) to file durations and volumes.

I'm still waiting for help with French for Chapter 05.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Okay, I think the chapters are all corrected now (Except 05, which has French). The only changes I made are to the "intros" to the files, in case you're planning to listen again. Or, come to think of it, even if you're not...

Thank you for reviewing things so promptly, Kiki. Sometimes it seems I barely get a file uploaded before boom! you've done it. Very impressive.

It will not be like that all the time. It just happens to be that I am in the USA for few weeks right now and accordingly I do not have much with what to occupy myself in my hotel room in the evenings (or even the whole day when the polar vortex hits  ). When I get back home, I am afraid this will change to worse very rapidly.
I think I will take a look at those names just in case, while we wait for the final chapter.

Here's another one that looks like it will be fun.

If you find yourself with extra time on your hands in that hotel room...

Chapter 05 again, this time with French (of a sort) where there should be French:

https://librivox.org/uploads/dlolso21/tutankhamen_05_smith_128kb.mp3 Duration 27:30 Volume 89.15dB

Kiki, there are three French "patches" at 22:57-23:04, 23:51-23:58, and 24:04-24:22. Otherwise, the recording is unchanged.

It turns out that my Macintosh computer will do text-to-speech in French! I have no idea how well it speaks French, but it has to be much, much better than I do. If this is acceptable, we should be about done with this book.

Thanks for listening,

Steve

Steve,

At Librivox we record the human voice, pasting a section of computer generated text to speech is not acceptable.

ref: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Foreign_Words_Pronounciation

Your 2 options are for 1) find another Librivox volunteer to record the selections or 2) record the selections yourself.

I know you want this is the last bit holding this project up and you want to finish. The foreign selections are rather short; I think you could do a decent job with them.

Okay, all voices are human voices now.

https://librivox.org/uploads/dlolso21/tutankhamen_05_smith_128kb.mp3 Duration: 27.29 Volume: 89.16 dB

I gave credit to Ezwa at 00:09-00:13 Thank you, Ezwa!

French passages are at 23:00-23:07 (Steve), 23:54-24:00 (Ezwa), and 24:06-24:22 (Ezwa).
