A Son At The Front by Edith Wharton (1862 - 1937).

This project is complete and all audio files can be found in the catalogue: https://librivox.org/a-son-at-the-front-by-edith-wharton/
This is an overlooked novel by the author of House Of Mirth, Age Of Innocence, and more. She already became the first woman to win the Pulitzer prize for literature before this novel was written. Edith Wharton is known for her combination of social observations, criticism, and compassion. This WWI novel is told from the point of view of parents, forced to live their own lives when their son is at the front. John and Julia are divorced parents. When their only son George enlists, Julia and her second husband do their best to give him a desk job. But George shocks everybody by enlisting. His mother is horrified, his father and stepfather are secretly proud. But would he return alive? ( Stav Nisser )
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/sonatfront00whar
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello Maxene,
welcome to Librivox. I hope you will enjoy here. All chapters have not been claimed, and I am waiting for someone to help me set up the magic window for the project. Only when there is a magic window, you would be able to see what is available. You can claim chapters in advance, of course.
Stav.

Everything is going moderately well! I'm still on the move so I might be slower that usual but I am excited to be working with you again!
I see the text is also divided in books but this doesn't affect the chapter numbering. Would you like the intro and section titles to acknowledge book numbers, or is that not important?

I don't think this is necessary, and might be confusing. But what ever you see fit.

I also don't think that is necessary, but I wanted to check with you.

So now I can fill in the Magic Window! :)

Do you have the word counts of the chapters for me to add to the Magic Window? If not, I can do the page counts instead.

No, this time we would have to do without them. I cannot count words in this text, or find out pages for that matter.
