William Again by Richmal Crompton (1890 - 1969).

This project is complete! All audio files are available on our catalog page:
https://librivox.org/william-again-by-richmal-crompton/

Volunteers outside the USA: Richmal Crompton died in 1969. His work is still protected by copyright in places like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years; Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1954); or Canada (author's death plus 50 years).
Fourteen more stories about William Brown. William is a mischievous eleven year old who is puzzled by the adult world, which is no less puzzled by him. The humor is gentle and pleasing in this 1923 publication. The series of books is better known in the United Kingdom than in the U.S. ( david wales)
  • Text source (only read from this text!):
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    • Say:

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of William Again by Richmal Crompton. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:

Hurray, hurray. I've been waiting for years to record this book, published in 1923. The Just William series of books is delightful. Better known in the UK than the US. But I haven't been able to find a free edition of it. I bought a kindle edition from Amazon that I will record from. Can anyone find a free version for dpl? A physical copy can be borrowed from several libraries according to worldcat. I appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hi David,

The Kindle edition would not be acceptable to read from, as we do not know if it is the exact text as the 1923 edition. We need an edition that is clearly public domain. The same rules apply to 1923 works as before: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=72912

If you don't mind reading from a hard copy, I found a 1923 edition on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0600402967/ref=tmm_hrd_used_olp_sr?ie=UTF8&condition=used&qid=&sr=

I did a quick look around the web for an online text as well, but didn't find one.

Sounds good, David. Sorry about that!

I will move this over to book suggestions to keep the launch pad tidy. Just post in the thread when you are ready to go and someone will move it back!

Heaven, I'm in heaven
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak
And I seem to find the happiness I seek...

Hurray, everyone! Today's mail (post in UK, I think) brought the only hard copy of this book I could find (delightfully tattered) - only in UK, not in US. Printed on the verso of the title page: Published - 1923.

Soooooo... am I allowed to record from this book? If so, may I please be moved back to the Launchpad and find a dpl and mc?

Thanks so much.

Edit: And then, if you wish, we can go out together dancing cheek to cheek (sorry, Irving Berlin)
Peace, David

Ha! Funny!

Snap a picture of the title page and copyright page, stick 'em in a zip file, and upload them to... umm, your MC's folder when you get an MC. We can file that with the project so we can prove which edition the project used.

In the meantime, this is back in the launch pad. :)

It's not PD for me, which is why I didn't volunteer. :)

Are there different rules in different places? I’m in the us so I think the rule is it has to be published before 1923. Would this count even if it was published in 1923? Sorry I’m not that familiar eith the PD rules and want to make sure i’m not breaking some copyright rules.

Thanks,
Campbell

There are different rules in different places. In the US we have just been graced with public domain being granted to 1923 works, as of January 1. So you (and I) are good to go. I see you are new to librivox; have you dpl before? Need help/info?
