Glimpses of Bengal by Rabindranath Tagore (1861 - 1941).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/glimpses-of-bengal-by-rabindranath-tagore/
The book is a selection of letters written by Tagore, in various places in Bengal,India. ( )
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/7951
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello,
I will be adding on to the summary before I complete the project.. also there is no link wiki page for this book.

I also have another doubt: how many sections would be needed? Each place has its own letter, and some places have multiple letters, so should I group those places together or shall I individually allot each letter a section?

If you need a DPL for this project, I'd be glad to help out.
I was in West Bengal briefly last year. I hope to go back, but that remains to be seen.
Of course, I didn't visit any of the places mentioned in this book.

Just my opinion concerning sections, if I were creating this project:

I would definitely combine the letters, since some of the are quite short.
I find 2,000 words to be a comfortable reading length, but you can go shorter of longer as you see fit. This also makes it easier for the listener -- not to have sections that are too long or too short. I would say to keep them under 30 minutes. So, some sections would have fewer letters than others depending on their length, and sections will vary in length, of course. I would label your sections just Part One, Part Two, etc. and just read the letter headings.

So, just one person's opinion, for what its worth.
I'll keep a watch in this in case I'm needed, but I'll be on another trip next week, this time to Haiti.

Thank you! I'd love to have you as DPL :)

So, I decided to group the same places together, then I would have approx. 38 sections.

MW coming up.

edit: Let me know if any changes are needed. Dividing the text geographically, while creating some short sections, does create a structure for the listener (new section = new location). I would though recommend using the shorter intro after the first section. Have fun.

I hope that doesn't mean that you'll be skipping around in the text.
I think it is important to keep the sections in the order as written.
Jumping around would be very confusing.

Oh no, there is no jumping around. They will come in the order they appear in.

I can delete the last section if it is not needed. Just make a request.

Thanks.
If you inadvertently skipped a letter you can "drag and drop" the empty section to the appropriate location (e.g. between sections 15 and 16). The sections will then renumber and be sequential again.

I still can't figure out which letter I missed, so I will keep the extra section and use it as the book progresses.

Thanks,
