Here is section 3. (22:22)

I'll go ahead and take sections 6 and 7 too, if that's OK. I'm starting to like President Grant, if not entirely his oratory.

Hello Russ,
Thank you for the reading. This is the first year where the figures were not included in the address. Two years later they are all back so apparently it wasn’t accepted well.

49:09 - But few of the officials receive a compensation equal to the respectable support of a family, while their duties are such as to involve millions of interest. In private life services demand compensation equal to the services rendered; a wise economy would dictate the same rule in the Government service.
I hear Federal Government

59:12 - Their labors are not yet complete, but it is believed that they will succeed in devising a plan that can be adopted to the great relief of the Executive, the heads of Departments, and members of Congress, and which will redound to the true interest of the public service. At all events, the experiment shall have a fair trial.
I hear experience

Before you upload again, please correct the file name. It should be: stateoftheunion1869_1876_04_various_128kb.mp3

0:17 extra wording (please delete) – State of the Union Addresses (1869-1876) Ulysses S. Grant, December 5, 1870, part 2
By steadiness in our present course there is no reason why in a few short years the national tax gatherer may not disappear from the door of the citizen almost entirely.
That certainly didn’t happen.

Thank you for claiming the remaining Address. I’m glad you are enjoying Grant. Before continuing to the other sections please correct the prior sections. PL oks are really important around here.

No problem at all. I only stepped in because I didn't want you to spend the time on it.

Thank you for the move to Readers Found!

Nicely done! I'm impressed.

A couple of pl notes to clear up and this section will be good to go.

0:17 extra wording (please delete) – State of the Union Addresses (1869-1876) Ulysses S. Grant, December 5, 1870, part 1

15:30 missing words - The question may then be determined, either by the action of the Senate upon the treaty or the joint action of the two Houses of Congress upon a resolution of annexation, as in the case of the acquisition of Texas.

24:21 repeat – During the conferences which preceded the negotiation of the convention of 1818 the British commissioners proposed to expressly exclude the fishermen of the United States from "the privilege of carrying on trade with any of His Britannic Majesty's subjects residing within the limits assigned for their use;"

I hope the edit at 15:24 (formerly 1530) isn't too bad. Here is the new version (31:00 total)

On sections 6 and 7 I have a suggestion and a question.

Suggestion for the section breakdown:

Section 6 - read through "In further connection with the Treasury Department I would recommend a revision and codification of the tariff laws and the opening of more mints for coining money, with authority to coin for such nations as may apply"

Section 7 - beginning at "WAR DEPARTMENT"

Which brings me to the question:

Do I read those CAPITAL section headings? I think I should, but I'm not convinced.

The section break you propose is fine with me.

Yes, please do read the section headings.

Sections 2 an 3 are both spot check PL OK. Thank you for your corrections.

Well, Colleen, you may have been bored but you did a great job. Section 1 is PL ok.

I'm sorry for the delay in PLing. I seem to have lost yesterday. I know it was around here somewhere but sure could use it back again.

I have so many of those days!

I don't mind dull, really. Some things NEED to be available in audio versions, exciting or not, and it's still a privilege to take part in making that happen! And I'm thankful that every year in history is not a thrill a minute. I'm ready to live in less interesting times for a while, myself, though it looks like that is still a ways off...
