The Silent Rifleman, A tale of the Texan Prairies by Henry William Herbert (1807-1858).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-silent-rifleman-a-tale-of-the-texan-prairies-by-henry-william-herbert/
A tale from the 1800s in the Texas plains written by British author Henry William Herbert. ( E.J. Wiley)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/46304
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

    • Say:

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of The Silent Rifleman, A tale of the Texan Prairies by Henry William Herbert. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"

I'm confused by your summary/intro. Are you recording 3 books in one, or is this only going to be the first of three projects?

Oops! My apologies, You’re right, this is only the first of those stories. I need to reword the description. I had a little trouble understanding the two names associated with the story, I found the info in Wikipedia for Herbert, but nothing on Jackson. The author is Herbert, but Jackson was the Printer, but the cover says “by ..... and James Jackson.” Through further research I found out a little bit on Jackson. It was printed in London where Jackson also printed many other stories in what they called “Penny Dreadfuls” back in the day. So I guess the printer got credit along with the author. The summary needs to leave out the other two story titles. I only intended to do the first project. Wikipedia always confuses me. Can I still edit that? Focusing on the authors distracted me. I found the summary info about the three stories not realizing I was only doing the one.

Ok, I answered my own question. I changed the summary to only the one story. I hope that all made sense.
Thanks!

OK, this is set up. Yes, it all makes sense. I'm OK leaving Jackson completely out of it. :)

I've shortened your file name a bit.

As you're the soloist, you're in charge of updating the Magic Window.

Detailed Instructions for accessing the Magic Window can be found in the document linked here:
Instructions for Soloists

Video showing how to use the Magic Window (read the above document first - it has the information on how to log in for the first time, which this does not have):
Magic Windows / Section Compiler: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOP4tcr1kl8

I've entered the first chapter title for you as an example. You can fill in the rest.

When you upload a chapter, put the file duration (mm:ss) in the Notes field and the uploaded URL into the Listen URL field, and mark the status from Assigned to Ready for PL.

We'll advertise for a DPL after you have a chapter or two ready. Holler if you have questions. Have fun! 8-)

Err, I just noticed I didn't put you in the project database entry, hsparent, so if you're trying to access the Magic Window, you wouldn't have been able to until now.

OK TriciaG, finally here's the first chapter, I was sick a couple of days so I used that time to teach myself "punch and roll." I'll probably upload a couple of chapters at a time after the first one to make sure things are going smoothly. Ready for PL.

OK, sounds like a plan!

Be sure to log into the Magic Window, put the URL in the "Listen URL" field, and the run time in the Notes field. Then change the last column (status) to "Ready for PL". 8-)

If you logged into the uploader using the generic "librivox" login, you'll need to log out, then log in using your personalized one.

Will do, just logged out of there and realized I didn't put ready for PL. Thanks for the reminder!
