Tell It All: The Story of a Life's Experience in Mormonism by Fanny Stenhouse (1825 - 1904).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/tell-it-all-the-story-of-a-lifes-experience-in-mormonism-by-fanny-stenhouse/
The life of an English woman's conversion to Mormonism, her marriage to a missionary and their mission in Europe. They travel to New York and finally emigrate to Salt Lake City where polygamy for Brigham Young's inner circle is virtually compulsory. Fanny struggles with her own situation, and offers insider insight into the machinations of early Utah Mormonism. ( Spiffycat)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/cu31924029474925/page/n9
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Ooops. While trying to upload chapter 3 I accidentally activated the link and it started to read to me. (Didn't know that would happen.) Didn't know how to stop it. Hit cancel, but probably too late. I'm going to upload again now. I hope I didn't break LV..

Welcome!

The text you're using shows no copyright info, nor any indication whether the text is edited or not. We'll either need a better online source (one from gutenberg.org, hathitrust.org, or an actual scan of the original pre-1924 book from another site), or, if you have a hard copy, we can work with that by getting photos of the title and copyright/printing year pages.

For now, since we have to figure out a different text source, I'm going to move this to Book Suggestions. Once we've got it worked out, we can move it back to the Launch Pad. :)

P.S. We also recommend HIGHLY that new readers record at least one section in a group project before embarking on a solo. This is to make sure you know what you're getting into. Recording a whole book isn't as easy as it seems. It isn't simply sitting down and recording. There's editing to do - and that often can take up to 5 times as long as recording does. In my experience, a ballpark estimate of 95% of brand new readers who start with a solo end up quitting before finishing. Please test the waters first before jumping in. :) Not only that, you're basically alone in a solo: you are the coordinator, and unless you have a very friendly DPL, you won't get much encouragement while doing your solo.

Ah! I've found versions on Archive.org:

https://archive.org/details/tellitallstorya00stengoog/page/n12 1874
https://archive.org/details/cu31924029474925/page/n9 1875
https://archive.org/details/cu31924029474917/page/n9 1890
https://archive.org/details/tellitallstoryof0350sten/page/n13 1874
https://archive.org/details/tellitallstoryof00sten/page/n11 1875

Any of these would do.

(Over 600 pages? This is going to be a HEFTY first solo work! I wouldn't recommend it right off the bat, as you're sure to get bogged down. Please do consider doing more recording at first in other projects.)

Hi Tricia----Yes, 600 page book is insane, but I've already recorded it because I'm afraid I'm going to be in the hospital with a family member, out of state for three months, and I knew I could not record in the the hospital, but I can edit. I've done considerable editing too. I didn't want to get anyone else involved because my life is so up in the air and I'd hate to drop the project after I've gotten others involved. If I've done it incorrectly, I'll do it over. My goal is to be finished by the end of the year. SC

Okay. And you recorded from that original text link?

Would you proof your recording to one of the scans? Like I said before, that text link you provided is problematic. :?

(I'll move this back to the Launch Pad. I won't be able to MC because I'm full up - overflowing - on MC projects. But another MC will be along eventually to set this up.)

Hi Tricia----Yes, I'll proof it to make sure it's the same. I want to get this 100 percent right. I see several pages after the table of contents there's a publish date on the link. Is that adequate or must it be copyright? Thanks for your patience. SC

The version you read appears to be this one. The cover/copyright pages seem to be identical and the numerous illustrations are on the same numbered pages. In random comparisons of the text I did not spot any differences. I'll set this up for you shortly.

Welcome first-time BC
This project is now set up in the database. Since this will be your first project as soloist/book coordinator (BC), you will need to set up a password for access to the workflow system so you can enter the information into the section compiler which then appears in the "Magic Window" in the top post. Here are some links to detailed instructions for logging into the system and setting a password the first time, as well as for entering and editing information in the section compiler.

Instructions for BCs and DPLs

A version of the above is also in the LibriVox wiki in case you can't access Google Docs for some reason.

ID3 tags will be added during cataloging so you don't need to add them to your files.

If you have any questions, let me know. Sections can be added by you or deleted by me. I'll leave this thread here in the Launch Pad for a day or so before I move it to the Going Solo forum, to see if a DPL (Dedicated Proof Listener) volunteers. I will proof the first section you upload to do a word perfect comparison with the text link provided above. I've added some information to the MW merely as a suggestion. Feel free to make changes (e.g. leave out chapter titles, shorten longer ones, use Arabic numbers not Roman numerals, etc.). The contents of the MW will appear in the final project page that listeners will see and they will be used to create the ID3 tags that appear on their mp3 player. Again, welcome to your first solo project.
DaveC

PS: You can have a different name than your username appear on your completed book. If you wish your "display name" to be different just let me know before the book is finished.

Thank you for checking into that. That particular site is far easier to read from.--- I was a bit sloppy on both the actual title of the book (very long 19th century title) and the description which was grammatically incorrect, and a little more inflammatory than it should have been. The true title (oy veh) is:

"Tell It All":
The Story of a Life's Experience
in
Mormonism
by
Mrs. T.B.H Stenhouse
of Salt Lake City
FOR MORE THAN TWENTY YEARS THE WIFE OF A MORMON MISSIONARY

So I'm not sure what to do with this. (Author signs her preface as Fanny Stenhouse). I'm going to read your next instructions thoroughly tonight. I'm wondering what happens if no one wants to be my reader...

Thanks, Spiffycat

I will correct the title. This will affect the intros to the chapters so don't start recording those yet. Once you are able to open the MW though you can start filling in the titles. I'm sure a proof listener will appear.

I've made the changes to the title and the intros for each chapter. In the first chapter you will provide the full title. You will do also do this at the very end of the book after the outro. Beginning with chapter two though you can use the shorter title, "Tell It All" in the intro (and with all remaining chapter intros). As to the book summary, when you feel comfortable rewriting it just let me know and I will change it on the Project Screen page. This just has to be done before we catalog the finished book (i.e. when all chapters are PL OK).

Craig and Spiffy, I can PL this project. As I understand it will be all ready at the same time? I would it a little at a time, probably about one or thee chapters per day. Have to check it out before I know how long it would take, I can do about 1 hour per day, including writing up notes. If that is ok with Spiffy - sign me up. If she wants it done more quickly, that is ok, I am sure someone will come along :D

Hi Cheryls. I would love to have you take on this project. I have a ton of editing to do and am having to redo previously done chapters due to a computer fuzz out, but I'm guessing I can do 2 or even 3 finished chapters a week. Would this be ok? Spiffy

Spiffy, That sounds perfect. The rate that you put chapters out is entirely under your control, and I have no preference. I just wanted to let you that I cannot do the entire book at one time. Sounds like we have a plan. :D This is a big project to tackle. Go at your own rate, and I will help where I can. Also, sounds like a very interesting book! :P Cheryl
