John Thorndyke's Cases by R. Austin Freeman (1862 - 1943).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/john-thorndykes-cases-by-r-austin-freeman/
Will write later ( Sandra Cullum)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/13882
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

    BC Admin
  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!

    • Say:
"John Thorndyke's Cases, by R. Austin Freeman. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of John Thorndyke's Cases by R. Austin Freeman. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"

    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of John Thorndyke's Cases, by R. Austin Freeman. "

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.

FYI, we can have two solos running for the same book, but thought I'd let you know that another reader is doing this book: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=72296

You can certainly do it, too, but sometimes readers prefer to work on something no one else is doing. :)

Moved back to the Launch Pad as per PM conversation. :)

I won't be MC'ing this, since I have another soloist who is supposed to be doing the same book - the files would get confused.

It has been a while since I did any recordings on Librivox, much to my shame! Is there anything else I need do here, other than narrate the book? Thanks

OK, I'll transfer that Magic Window over to this project and scrap that one. Thanks for the update, AKMorton!

I think I got everything transferred over to this project.

Sandra - aside from narrating and putting your sections into the Magic Window when you upload them, you don't have much to do. :) Oh, I guess you have to put the chapter titles in, too. Do you remember how to get into the MW?

I don't remember why the first story is divided into 2 parts. If you want to read it as one part, you certainly may. (Time limit on sections is 72 minutes, so that they can fit on an audio CD.)

Holler if you have questions. :)

Thank you, TriciaG for transferring the project. And thank you to Alondra for picking this up. Maybe Santa will bring me a new computer! :)

Thank you TriciaG, Thanks AK Morton for handing this title over, sorry about your computer, I know the feeling. Thank you to Smike for offering to DPL. I shall do it all in one section, not sure how to get into the MW it has been a while, give me some time to try and figure it out, otherwise I will holler. Hopefully will be able to start this title soon.

Hi:

Chapter 1 second half uploaded. I put TriciaG as MC not sure if that is right but it may be as this is the only Thorndyke's Cases going on right now, if not I apologize.

https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/johnthorndykescases_02_freeman_128kb.mp3

Second half because as I was playing with the recording and bisecting it, I lost the first half! aaarrrgghhh! So first half coming next.

Thanks and Enjoy I hope!

S.
