History of Egypt by F. C. H. Wendel (1850 - ?).

The history of Egypt from the earliest times to the conquest by Alexander the Great, covering the development of Egyptian civilisation: science, religion, art, language and literature. This book is written for the interested layperson, requiring no prior knowledge of Egypt, and in approachable everyday language. (Summary by Beth Thomas.)
This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/history-of-egypt-by-frederick-c-h-wendel/
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/historyegypt01wendgoog
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Beth,
I'll MC this for. Be right back with the MW.
Cheers,

I would like to volunteer for reading. I don't see any word count info yet so maybe I'll just start with 0 and 1 until there's a better feel for section length. I assume section 0 is just the preface? (no table of contents or such)

Yes, that section is open, but I see you have not yet done a 1 minute test. Please do this first, then come back here. The links you need are in the introductory forum and your introductory email.

Is there a pronunciation guide?

For example this sentence:

"In all probability the Amu Heriusha whom Una had so effectively crushed had been left alone by Meri-Rā's .... "

Thanks!

No pronunciation guide - I'm afraid I don't know any more about it than you do! Just your best guess will be fine!

Oh dear, I think we have a problem. Sections are not supposed to be any longer than 72mins.

Let me create a new section for you and we will need to move all the numbers down. You will need to find a suitable place to split the chapter (doesn't have to be exactly in the middle) and change the intro/outro to say "Introductory, Part 1" or Part 2.

Sorry about this - I didn't realize this chapter would be so long!

Edit: Done, new Section 02 created. Please use this as the new filename. Sorry it is at the bottom of the MW - I can't move it up on my phone. I'll fix it later.
