THE POWER OF A LIE by Johan Bojer (1872 - 1959). Translated by Jessie Muir ( - 0)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-power-of-a-lie-by-johan-bojer/

Volunteers outside the USA: Johan Bojer died in 1959. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955) or Canada (author's death plus 50 years), UNLESS the rule of shorter term applies. <p>
Norby is requested to guarantee a bank loan for Wangen and he obliges, signing the loan document in the presence of a witness. Some time later the witness dies. Years after that Wangen defaults on the loan, requiring Norby to pay the balance, but Norby declares his signature on the document to be a forgery. The profound effects of this lie on Wangen, Norby, their wives, families and community form the basis of this brilliant Norwegian novel, presented here in a first-rate English translation. IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Lee!

As I set this one up, I think I should point out that there are a lot more chapters than 12. There are 3 parts, with at least 8 chapters to each part. Are you planning to combine chapters?

Back in a moment with our MW!

Duh! I just saw the last number in the whole column. Also, I'm not too swift with Roman numerals. :(

As the Santa Claus song goes, I'm making a list AND CHECKING IT TWICE, and now it looks like 28 including the Introduction, but I'll go with your count. :) I'll ask you to do the math and add -- 17 (I think).

If the writing and translation stay as good as Ch. 1, I think we're in for a treat.

Ch 6.

"Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!" Here's a terrific psychological picture of that idea.
