The Morning Dawn by Rev. Leonard Wilson Arnold Luckey (1857 - 1942).

"The Morning Dawn, Bar Harbor, Maine: a Very Comprehensive Poem Illustrating and Describing the Scenic Beauty of the United States; Lafayette National Park, the Queen of Resorts" , is the complete title of this charming little book about Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. Lafayette National Park was designated by the U.S. Congress in 1919 and was the first National Park in the Eastern United States. It was renamed to Acadia National Park in 1929. ( Nemo)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-morning-dawn-by-rev-leonard-wilson-arnold-luckey/

  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=wu.89073039620;view=1up;seq=9;size=75
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I am planning on using the charming Amy (alg1001) for the MC, and the wonderful Helen (HZFerr) as DPL, but will confirm!

Hi Helen!

Five of the six sections are ready for PL!

The last section, a longer "travelogue" piece, I'll probably have done by the weekend and we can wrap this one up!

That also gives Eva a few days to design the CD cover! :D

BTW, Amy and Helen - Eva and I will be launching a duet project in a couple days, and would love it if you both would be involved in your usual roles again!

It's William Hazlitt's essays on Shakespeare's play, originally published in 1817. This edition with a new introduction by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch, was published in 1917.

Hope you both are willing to come along for the ride?

Cool, Hazlitt and Q! You can add my initials to the title of the thread and I'll grab it off the launchpad. :D

The photos are incredible; nothing stays the same, but I hope some of the beauty has remained untouched.
I got a kick out of the attired worn by the campers.

Thnx H!!!

yeah, you don't see too many campers attired like that anymore ...most of them look like they stepped out of a catalog and are probably wearing about $500 in space-age technology clothing!

I think the island is actually more beautiful now then it was then .... the park remains the largest landowner by far so that has not changed, and in fact has gotten bigger through donations by wealthy individuals , but most of the private land which back then was clear cut, in the last 100 years has grown back into young forest and the housing boom has never taken hold here. We still see eagles, falcons, deer, mink, porcupine, porpoises and seals!!!
