I read Mother-in-Law and it was so Moliere! Or, I guess, vice-versa? Amazing find!
I have prep'd this play and will offer it right after New Year's Day.
Well done Todd. You keep supplying us with plays to work on.
If this is supposed to be a comedy it is a bit odd as the story seems to include a rape.
Happy New Year
Sadly, early cultures as reflected in their plays did not take woman's rights as we do now - there was a rape attempt in The Twin Rivals earlier this year that drove part of the plot. Doing these plays, hearing these plays ought to help us and our listeners realize how we have improved our sensitivity over the years, and perhaps how much further we may need to go.

Thanks, Todd

Interesting list - great titles.

Good material for future one-act collections as they are offered. Or perhaps it would be possible to make a project that was a collection of one act plays by Planche, or another by Selby, or another by Stirling, etc. We did a couple of collections like that earlier.

Thanks, Todd

Looks to be an exciting start! :) I wonder if there are any plays from 1923 that will enter the public domain in a few days? We should think of doing at least one next year, if there are some options available.

A powerful list, Todd, and great suggestions, all!

I’ll post another city comedy by Nathan Field, A Woman is a Weathercock, once Amends for Ladies is done.

Great to see so many people launching new plays. Good news for those of us who like to be in them. Thank you all.

Unfortunately GBS's St Joan will not be PD in UK.

Has anyone considered Moliere's Don Juan?

Suggestion off Twitter:

The Best Plays (1922-1923, copyright 1923)
https://archive.org/details/cu31924107204475

I see there are play versions of R.U.R. and Merton of the Movies, both of which we have the original story in the catalog. I didn't dig beyond that.
Serial novel: The Wandering Jew
Medieval England meets Civil War Americans: Centuries Apart
Humor: My Lady Nicotine

The "Best Plays" are abbreviated in this book - some good scenes are given verbatim but surrounded by editor-written narration filler. If we can find the full plays they would be preferable.

(We actually have the full play version of R.U.R. in the catalog already.)

You know, it might actually be worthwhile to do this book as a whole. It would be like a book/DR mashup. We could do the drama bits similarly to how we do, say, the one act play collections, and then get other readers for the narration parts.

Oh jeez. I'm currently trying to get everything ready for a long LV hiatus, but I've been wanting to do Merton of the Movies for ages. If we can find an unabridged version, I might have to reconsider leaving for a spell.
PROJECTS
Current Solo:Septimius Felton (Hawthorne's final novel)
Help Needed: Strange Interlude (O'Neill's Freudian melodrama - roles available!)
