ARMAGEDDON—2419 A.D by Philip Francis Nowlan (1888 - 1940). (1888 - 1940)

This book is now in our catalog at https://librivox.org/armageddon-2419-ad-by-philip-francis-nowlan/
This is the original ‘Buck Rogers’ SF classic. Thrill to the adventures of Anthony "Buck" Rodgers is one of the most celebrated characters in the history of science fiction. Famed in comic strips, television, in movies, and even radio, this is the first novel to introduce Buck Rogers to the reading public. In Armageddon – 2419 A.D., Buck, a victim of accidental suspended animation, awakens five hundred years later to discover America groaning under the tyranny of the villainous Han, ruling from the safety of their armored machine-cities. Falling in love with one of America's new warrior-women, Wilma Deering, Rogers soon become a central figure in using new fangled scientific weapons – disintegrators, jumping belts, inertron, and paralysis rays – to revolt against the Han. 'Nuff said. Adventure awaits!!!!! This book has no redeeming cultural value. Neither does it's sequel, The Airlords of Han which incidentally, can be found in the LibriVox catalog at https://librivox.org/the-airlords-of-han-by-philip-francis-nowland/ ( wikipedia and philchenevert)

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Section 2 (chapters 3 & 4):
At around 12:18 I hear "sub-electronic and atomic forms", the Gutenberg text reads "sub-electronic, electronic and atomic forms' - not a big deal, imho.

F.y.i., Checker reports your average level just above the LibriVox minimum (but OK).

PL OK - you're already 1/3 of the way there.

Phil — I have an overnight houseguest in the computer’s room — I expect to listen tomorrow.

The spoiler about the eventual victor tells me something about where the story was written. <wink>

Section 3 - Chapters IV & V - at about 14:45 I hear "in a moment they would be they would be" - this doesn't really bother me, though.

All else is fine. Section 3 PL OK.

P.S. The Americans can count themselves extremely lucky in this skirmish. Against all odds they pulled it off!

Section 4 - Chapters VII & VIII
at around 13:45 I hear "I wondered if a raid mighnot -- might not be possible" - I think this one should be edited out. The rest is fine. I'm going to mark this section as SEE PL NOTES.

Treason. Foul doings indeed.
