Fourth National Climate Assessment, Volume II: Impacts, Risks and Adaption in the United States by USGCRP.

This project is now complete! All files can be downloaded from the catalog page:
https://librivox.org/fourth-national-climate-assessment-vol2-by-usgcrp/

The Global Change Research Act of 1990 mandates that the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) deliver a report to Congress and the President no less than every four years. The Fourth National Climate Assessment (NCA4) fulfills that mandate in two volumes. This report, Volume II, was released to the public in late November 2018, and draws on the foundational science described in Volume I. Volume II focuses on the human welfare, societal, and environmental elements of climate change and variability for 10 regions and 18 national topics, with particular attention paid to observed and projected risks, impacts, consideration of risk reduction, and implications under different mitigation pathways. This assessment was written to help decision-makers and other stakeholders by providing a thorough examination of the effects of climate change on the United States. (Warren Kati using excerpts from the report) This audiobook is an abridged version of the full written report, which totaled more than 1600 pages. The Front Matter, Overview and Frequently Asked Questions chapters were recorded in their entireties, whereas the Executive Summaries were recorded for all other chapters. A website address is provided at the end of every Executive Summary chapter recording where the listener can find the full written chapter. The full written chapters contain the hundreds of scientific references that support the content for each chapter.
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://nca2018.globalchange.gov/downloads/
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Okay, I've set this up. No time to PL this though, but I'm sure one of our other science buffs will grab this one quickly!

Things I've done:
- shortened the filename. Severely ;-)
- In the intro I have taken out the subtitle of Vol. II except for the very first section.
- If you cannot read one chapter per file (max. file length 74 minutes), then it's better to call the files "sections" in the intro/outro. Up to you really, not hugely important.

I can see that this is your first solo :D This means, you are now exclusively responsible for the MW and need to keep it updated on your own. For this, you will need a new, personal password for our workflow every time you login to your MW. It also works for the uploader, btw.
Here are instructions on how to update the MW for soloists:
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Soloists:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window

If you have questions, let me know.
Good luck with this one! :D
Cheers, Ava.

I followed the instructions for first time login and added my username and new password. However, I am having trouble getting access to the management tool that will allow me to update the MW. When I click on the BC admin link under the MW, I get the message that I don't have permission for this area. I tried to be sure that I was not already logged in.

I am a first time soloist. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You are entered as the BC, so that's not it. Sometimes there are problems with the MW password if you were just logged in with the generic uploader password - you can use your new MW password for everything librivoxy (except the forums).

Could you please try again and let me know if you still have problems?

Ava,

Thanks for the advice! I can now use the management tool. I think that the issue was that my new BC admin password was the same as the password that I use for the forum. I now have a different password for the BC admin tasks.

Some of my sections are Executive Summaries, and some are complete chapters. Do you prefer that I include Exec. Summary in the title, or place that in the Notes section? Most of the sections will be Exec. summaries.

Cheers,

I'm glad it worked out for you!
(Always good to have two different passwords since the MW area is a bit more sensitive...)

Anyway, about your Magic Window:

The "notes" field doesn't end up on the catalog page. So if you want to have a title a certain way, you need to put that info, well, into the "title" field  The rest is up to you, really. As long as the title is not too long, pretty much anything goes. Personally, I would leave out the Exec. Summ (unless there's a later chapter with the same name, that might be confusing) and I would also leave out the Chapt. 1 part, since it would look a bit awkward on the catalog page. But this is YOUR project, so I should be shutting up here! :D

Edit: also, you might want to consider saying "section x" in the intro/outro if chapters need to be split. Alternatively, you can say "chapter x Part y", that's fine as well.
Cheers, Ava.

And we are up and running . . .

The first section is ready for PL.

By the way, this report is written in non-technical language, so I think that it will be of interest to anyone who is interested in what the experts are saying about climate change and its current and future effects on the US.

Cheers,

Oops, in my excitement about posting the first chapter, I forgot to mention the file length.

NIce try, but that's another part of your job now as a soloist:

Please put the link to your recording into the "Listen URL" field in the MW and the length goes into the "Notes" field. Once you have done this, you should also change the "Status" to "PL needed".

Your DPL - whom we will attract shortly I hope - will take it from there. :D

You did it - excellent!

With that you have just graduated to your very own spot in "Going Solo".

I may not check by there quite as often, if you have questions or problems, just shoot me a pm!

Have fun!
