Hi Anne and David --

As I am approaching the end of Pioneer Work, I've been looking for the next project to read.

I've spotted "Travels in New Zealand" by Ernest Dieffenbach "Late naturalist to the New Zealand Company", published in 1843 and containing "unvarnished descriptions of the places I visited". It's two volumes.

Are you both happy to keep working with me and to help me tackle this project?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Hi Again -

I've just uploaded Chapter 19.

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/pioneerworkalps_19_harper_128kb.mp3
34 min 49.9 sec; 88.8 dB.

Just the Appendix to go!

l've also drafted the Intro and am about to edit the source code for the first page.

I would value any thoughts or comments. It is perhaps not as snappy as I'd like.

Thanks!

19 PL OK.

You've obviously put a lot of thought and effort into the summary. I find the opening quote quite exhilarating. I'm hooked after reading just that. The next two paragraphs though provide a very good overview of the book.

Hi --

Thanks for those supportive comments.

When I read the bit that I quoted, I knew that I wanted to use it in the Summary for the book, so I just had to find it again. Otherwise, I wrote the rest of the summary quite quickly -- but I do have to do quite a bit of writing for my job.

Didn't you just love those hypnotic tables of glacier stats?

Cheers. One section more to go.

Hi David and Anne -

Here is the last Section of Pioneer Work. Thank you both for working with me on this project. I have enjoyed this book tremendously -- I hope others do too.

https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/pioneerworkalps_20_harper_128kb.mp3
36 min 3.2 sec, 88.4 dB.

So it is another set of recordings almost completed - the rest is over to you two, unless of course any edits are needed.

Anne - if you do fancy doing the cover art, here is a link to an image that I quite like. https://natlib.govt.nz/records/22786667. The conditions of use read such that it should be OK for use as a Librivox cover. There are a few others in the NZ National Library. Another interesting one is APH in a bivouac at Craig's Creek. There are also images in the pdf scan of the book, but they haven't really scanned well.

Cheers

At the beginning of the intro you say "Appendix 2, Pioneer..." I'm confused by the "2"

Thanks for that.

"to" substituted with "of". Hope that sounds OK now.

No need for you to feel red faced. On listening again, it didn't sound right; and I didn't get the microphone out to fix it - just found an appropriate candidate from among the "of"s already read and pasted it in (lazy!).

Yay - finished. Thanks for listening!

Thank you both - all done. Let me not if something needs changing, I couldn't fit all the summary on the cover (unless I used a very very small font)
but I think it's OK.
This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project: https://librivox.org/pioneer-work-alps-new-zealand-by-arthur-paul-harper/
