    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/14623
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I have set this up for you.
I see you are a first time BC... congratulations on taking that step  I can help you out if you have questions.

A couple of things to bear in mind when setting up a project:
If possible, you should include the copyright year on the project template. It's usually fairly easy to find at the beginning of the text (here, it is 1918, so I have added it for you). You are using a Gutenberg text, which is usually a safe option; but it's important we know it is Public Domain.

Secondly, we need to know how many sections you need in the Magic Window (it can be adjusted later). If you don't enter a number, it comes up as 0... so the Magic Window doesn't generate. Here, I just looked at how many chapters are in the book... 25. If you decide you need more, you will be able to add them. If you need fewer, only MCs can delete them, but it's an easy job.

In the subject line, I have added a tilde (~) to signify you are looking for a DPL. If you have one set up, or plan to do it yourself, that can be removed; and I will need to add the DPL to the project. I have also added the descriptors Group and Kids, just to let people know what kind of project it is.

I'll continue walking you through this in another post.

OK, now for editing the first post:

I have added you to the list of BCs, but you will only be able to edit projects you are BCing (that includes any solos you decide to do).

In the top right corner, you should see a pencil icon. That is for editing.

You can edit the subject... so if you want to remove the tilde, or decide it's not a kids' book, go ahead 8-)

You can also edit the first post.
Here are some edits you may want to consider (none are required, just something for you to decide):

Your 'blurb' is a bit thin. Before cataloguing, it might be a good idea to flesh it out a bit if you can. If you're not familiar with the book, you can always ask the DPL's help on what the story is basically about.

ID tags are optional. You can delete that whole section on ID tags if you wish. At cataloguing, the system overwrites anything readers have typed in there, with its own Librivoxy information. Some readers like to enter tags, but, really, they are just typing practice

The file name is quite long sixlittlebunkersatgrandmabells
The longer it is, the more likely it is that readers will make mistakes. Before the project starts, you can change that if you want. It needs to be unique... but something like bunkersatgrandmabells might be worth condsidering. Your choice, and once the files start coming in, changing it makes life difficult (mostly for me 8-) 8-) ). If you do decide to change it, note there are two places.

I see you are already on the list of DPLs, so I assume you are able to access the MW OK?

You will need to enter the chapter titles in the first column. I've started it off for you. You just need to hit 'enter' to save.

It is helpful to readers if you are able to give a word count in the Notes column. I'm not sure if there's an efficient way of doing this (probably!) but my way is to open Google Drive and paste a chapter at a time into a document, then under 'tools' ask for a word count. I then delete the chapter and move on to the next one. When you enter anything into the notes column, you need to 'save' rather than 'enter'. I'm sure there's a good reason, but I don't know what it is :?:

You are probably familiar with the drop-down menu on the right. When you enter a reader, it automatically changes to 'assigned', but you will need to mark it 'ready for pl'.

As for entering readers... this requires dexterity and patience. Click on "assign reader sections". In the 'sections' box, you can enter 01-03 or 01, 02, 03. You can even leave the zeroes off if you feel rebellious. As for the reader box, you start typing in the reader's name. Speed is of the essence here, but sometimes it just doesn't play ball. if you type 'a', you will get a list of everyone with 'a' in their name. Obviously, type 'abc', you get those with those letters in their name... a much shorter list. But you have to be quick and even then sometimes you have to delete letters in order to generate the list. You then go down the list to find the reader's name and click on it. I like to add the date of claim to the notes column, but not everyone does that.

I'll explain about adding new readers or deleting claims if the need arises.
In the meantime, if you have questions, please ask.

Hello Lynne,

First of all, thank you so much for the help!
Now, I will soon add the chapters and will try doing the word count as well.
I am interested in being the DPL for this project, and yes, I am quite OK with dealing with the MW by now.
As for the summary, I will edit towards the completion of the project and I also have removed the ID3 tags.
I also have shortened the file name to bunkersatbells. Hope thats OK?

Thanks again for helping me out!

Sounds good! We'll stay on the Launch Pad for a day or two -- remind me if I forget to move us 8-)

Hello Lynne,

I think we should move this project to listeners wanted; I don't think its fair to the others that I claimed this before giving them the opportunity to do so. If no one else wants to PL, then I will become the DPL.

It is the norm to stay on the Launch Pad for a few days... some people look there first so as to join new projects. But I will move us to Readers Wanted.

I've put you in as DPL, but we can leave it blank. As you have access to the MW, you can DPL unless and until someone else steps up.
