thank you, Jim, for yet another interesting story, but: I was enraged when he killed his sister   and then he even escapes punishment. Hero or not, how unfair is that ?

Nevertheless, your section is PL ok. :)

I vaguely knew about the Horatii and Curiatii because of this famous painting by French artist David. Maybe you know it too, it's called the Sermon of the Horatii and shows the moment when the three brothers swear the oath that they would fight:

I wonder why Tappan didn't include this painting in the book. It's very famous.

I didn't know the detailed story about the fight though, so this text was really interesting to me.

I had never heard of this apparently very famous event, so was happy I chose it. And I did see several paintings subsequently, one of which, was the one you mentioned. There is one of his stabbing his sister. Thank you for your attention as always. Jim  for the sister

I have fixed and reuploaded section 52. New runtime: 2:45

And here is section 73 about Pompeii:
https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/worldstory_volume04_73_tappan_128kb.mp3

I was hoping for something less poetic and a bit more factual. But I guess with a mere 6:32, that's all he could do...

Yes, my Pompeii section was not so factual as I'd hoped, either. It was all vignettes of hypothetical people trying to flee from destruction. I only realized afterwards that it was excerpts from a novel.

I immediately suspected it was from the very famous novel "The last days of Pompeii" when I read that the author was Bulwer-Lytton.

I'm sorry you were both disappointed, Ava and Devorah. Hopefully the other sections were more to your liking.

Will get to PLing all these sections soon. Thank you all !
