This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/lampada-by-georgy-ivanov/

"The Lantern" is one of the earlier books of poetry by Georgy Ivanov (1894 - 1958), a leading poet and essayist of the Russian emigration.

  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://imwerden.de/publ-2510.html
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

    BC Admin
  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
    START of recording (Intro):
    • "Секция [number] Книги стихов Георгия Иванова Лампада. Эта запись сделана для проекта ЛибриВокс. Все записи ЛибриВокс являются общественным достоянием. Для справок и помощи проекту пожалуйста посетите сетевую страницу librivox DOT org."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
      "Лампада Георгия Иванова [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Секция [number] Книги стихов Георгия Иванова Лампада. Эта запись проекта ЛибриВокс находится в общественном достоянии."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"Конец Книги стихов Георгия Иванова Лампада. "

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename lampada_##_ivanov_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. lampada_01_ivanov_128kb.mp3)

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)

Mark - I'll MC.

Is this the "intro page" with a link to the PDF? https://imwerden.de/publ-2510.html
I'd rather link to that than directly to a PDF, if possible.

Thank you, Tricia!
Yes, it is. If we assume that whoever tries to open the book can read Russian, then yes, of course, I changed the link. But I am curious -- why is this link better?

When people use books from Gutenberg, we ask them to link to the main book page so that people visiting don't get forced into the html (or other) format. Similar thing here: I think it's better not to force people into downloading the PDF right away; they may just want to look at the info about the book rather than look at the book contents right away.

This might be getting a bit picky, especially on a project like this where there is ONLY a PDF version, but it makes sense in my mind, anyway. ;)

Thank you, done! The DPL takes her time, but should eventually materialize.

Hello Mark,
did I understand this correctly, you already have agreed with a certain DPL to work together with? Or are you waiting for any one to "materialize"? If the latter is the case, I'd be glad to be your DPL. These are great poems.

Dear Eva, I do have someone who agreed to DPL in a few days, but I am sure she would not mind if you take over, and she would just listen to the book when ready.
I am asking for the standard PL level, but I would gladly listen to any suggestions or constructive criticizm, if you express them!
If you would like to, please confirm your desire, and Tricia would kindly assign you.
Thank you! :9:

Mark and Tricia,
Yes, I'd like to do the job! I once spoke Russian fluently, but lately I got a bit out of practice. DPLing will certainly help me to keep up.

Mark,
I listened to the first section. I really like these poems very much and you read them very enjoyably.
I'd like to point out two things that you might want to consider:
1. At position 33:00 I understand you saying "милого голос" instead of "милого голоса". I dont think this absolutely has to be corrected, but I still wanted to point it out to you, so you can decide on your own what to do about it. If you leave everything as it is, you have my thumbs up to set the PL status on PL OK.

2. I don't suggest that you change this here in the first section, but maybe you would like to do so later on: I would leave more silence in between the poems. Since most of them have no heading, I was irritated at the beginning, not quite getting it when a poem ended and a new began. When I used the text that got clear to me, of course. When we do poetry projects with one poem per section, we leave up to one second silent at the beginning and five at the end of a poem, which makes about 5.5 seconds between the poems. I believe this should be your minimum, too. Again, this is my personal perception and perhaps not irritating to other listeners, e.g. native speakers of Russian.

All in all - nice project and very well done!!!

Thank you, Eva! Thank you for pointing out the "милого голоса" mistake, I decided to let it go, but I really appreciate you catching it, that was beyond the scope of standard PL.
I did increase the pauses to 3 sec, 5.5 would be an overkill, I would start checking my headset connection if I hear it :-). Please listen to sec.2 and let me know if it's not enough.
https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/lampada_01_ivanov_128kb.mp3 [38:08] -- I marked it "Ready for spot-PL", but only if you wish to recheck the pauses.
