The only thing I can think of is that you are being logged out. Are you getting the message "You do not have permission..."? If so, click on log out then log back in.

Congratulations on your first recording--very well read without any errors. I did have to increase the volume on my computer almost to the maximum, so I ran the recording file through Checker and MP3 Gain, two programs which measure volume. Both results showed that your volume was low--at 70.9db. Usually recordings range around 89 db on average. I had a similar issue when I first recorded, and found information in Librivox and Audacity that helped me correct the file. Lynne may also be able to provide a link or two to assist you.

You can always look in the wiki (see the link at the top of the page) if you need help... but as I am a visual learner, I love the videos made by one of our admins, so I'll refer to them here.

As Lora mentioned, many people use MP3Gain. I am not one of them, so I can't tell you too much, but here is a video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toef8_-qsms

Just so you know, our goal is 89dB, but anywhere from about 86-92 is OK, and will pass Checker. We are told to imagine someone listening on a noisy subway, with earbuds...

You can amplify a file that is too quiet using the amplify effect (or reduce the volume using a negative amplification -- I was shocked the first time I had to do that after I had been recording more than 5 years with low volume!). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_z607awyLw
Sometimes, however, you can't amplify enough because you have peaks. Maybe one word or phrase came out louder, or you got quieter as you went on or something. Then you can use the compressor effect, which makes the loud bits quieter and the quiet bits louder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fKYYj6HMZU

Bear in mind, increasing the volume will probably mean you need noise cleaning (or more noise cleaning if you already did it). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFSg9o37HMw


That's quite a bit of tinkering with your file, and each time you do something, the quality degrades just a little. Most people won't notice a couple of procedures, but it will end up 'tinny'. So the best thing is to find the correct input for when you record. Unfortunately, Phil doesn't have a video for this, but there is an article in the wiki https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Setting_Recording_Input_Level. You might understand it, but it's gobbledygook to me
So here is my own quick guide:
Are you using an external mic? (not your computer's internal mic). That makes a huge difference. My first one was under $30 from Amazon and was quite decent. A USB mic is best. You need to place it close enough to pick up your voice but not so close it picks up every breath.

Did you select the correct mic in Audacity? I made that error a lot. Second line from the top, second tab in , there is a mic icon and a drop-down menu with external and internal mics listed. Be sure to choose the right one, otherwise you might think you are recording with your spiffy mic, when in fact, you're using the internal computer one.


The last thing is about a third of the way across that second-from-the-top ribbon in Audacity, there is another mic icon with a slider thingy. Play with that until you are happy with the result. Mine is set at the halfway mark, but you might need yours further over. I have a fairly soft voice but I've been doing this a while and have gained confidence (and got used to the sound of my own voice!)


See if you can fix the file and re-upload it using the same file name. If you need more help, please ask. There is a steep learning curve at first, but before you know it, you'll be an old hand
