Tom Petrie's reminiscences of early Queensland (dating from 1837) by Tom Petrie (1831 - 1910) and others.

Tom Petrie's memories of the early days of the colony of Queensland, recorded by his daughter. The book includes important information about the aboriginal inhabitants and their interaction with the settlers. ( barbara2)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/cu31924063745495
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader

Oh, thank you so much Anne. Please check out my latest effort.

I have never been a BC for a group read so I'll need all the help I can get (and I would be thrilled if somebody else could BC it). I would like to read the first section to get the project going and I welcome any queries about pronunciation of all those aboriginal place names - I live in the Moreton Bay area.

Are the 3 part file names OK? The book is in two parts.

Best,

Barbara

It's not the easiest text to set up the MW, and I really am full up, but I'll MC it and try to guide you through the setup

I having trouble contacting the database and I need to go to bed soon
as I see the book there are 2 parts , with identical chapter numbers so you'll have to use in the title field in the MW
Part 1 Chapter I
Part 1 Chapter II
etc.

Part 2 Chapter I
etc
or some clear abbreviation if you prefer

I'd encourage thread conversation to always refer to section number - we've had too many books when people read the wrong chapter X
I'll have to finish this in the morning , still can't contact the database

Hi, Barbara!
This is an interesting and important text. I hope that it draws attention, especially from our Aussie readers.
I think you'll do fine as a BC, and Annise has given you some good guidance. I've done a number of BC projects, and would be glad to help out. I wouldn't mind being BC for you, but I think you are up to the challenge! I'd offer to be DPL, but my listening schedule is pretty full right now. But, I'll keep this on my watch list and help out if I can.

Very sensible. Thank you, Anne. I'm on top of that part of the project now.

Very encouraging, Larry. It's nice to know I have backup if I need it.

Back again. Welcome Cheryl
Larry - I think she will manage - Cheryl and I can help if needed and I'm hoping we'll attract any readers who are interested in the problems of culture clashes and the different ways members of both sides react to them

Barbara -- I notice there are errata on page 29 , and a couple of them seem quite important. You can't assume all readers will read them but I think the first 2 are important especially the second one. I can only suggest that you either read them yourself or use the notes field for the section to explain the incorrect paragraph placement

Thanks Anne. I have given myself the sections to which they refer.
