haha, I understand that feeling. I have the same with each chapter I am doing. The editing usually takes me three times longer than the recording.
May I try section 14?
yes of course, thank you :9: you will see, this section is much shorter and will not give you so much trouble after starting with such a long one.

As this is the final section of the book, you need to say something special in the end disclaimer:

You say: "Fim da seção 14" and also "Fim de Canaã, por Graça Aranha." It's written in the first post, but in case you overlooked it ;)

I sign you up

Hello there!

I've just had my one-minute test approved! I'd like to volunteer to record section 13 (chapter XI). Would that be OK?

Thank you

hello again :) yes this is super that you want to help bring this over the finishing line. :9: I can reserve Section 13 for you. To open your official reader page, I need to know what reader name you want to use. Your forum name, or your real name or any pseudonym you like. Just tell me and I create your reader page immediately.

For all the details on how to say the intro/outro and how to correctly name your file, check out the first post under the Magic Window. There you see all the important info.

Have fun recording ! I look forward to your section.

oh Marcio, I have just checked out your website. Cool, you also like to travel  I see you have been to Germany, France and Holland, so chances are you may have passed through my small country as well: Luxembourg, right in the middle of it all

If you wish to include your website on your reader page, let me know, I can put the link there as well. Sorry I didn't ask before.

Hi Kitty!

I've cycled from the Netherlands to France, but didn't go through Luxembourg, unfortunately... But I'll put it on my list of places to visit!

So, I've put up a website with some recordings of mine, and replaced the link in my profile with this new address (http://www.exclamassom.com.br ), if you could put this address in my reader page, I'd be very happy.

And I've finished recording and editing my section, check it out: https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/canaa_13_aranha_128kb.mp3

I hope it is fine, but if you find anything wrong, please let me know and I'll correct it.

Loved doing it, I'll get another one as soon as this one is greenlighted!

All the best

you are fast ! Thank you for the sections. I will try to listen to it this afternoon and give you feedback. Please also always include the length of the file, for reference.

So, Marcio, I had a listen to your file and it's really very enjoyably and fluently narrated. No problems understanding your reading.

But I found a couple of small errors, which I think need to be corrected. Now please, do NOT re-record the entire file again (I say that because some new readers did just that, :? and it's too time consuming if only two small sentences are wrong). The easiest way to correct is recording the two sentences which are wrong once again in another Audacity file, noise-clean and amplify separately and then simply copy/paste them in the masterfile at the spot where the faulty sentences are. :)

> at 2:48: (p. 343): "em que cada um resumia a bellezza e a força do universo" - you omitted the words "em que". Well, I am not fluent enough in Portuguese to assess if this is an important error which changes the meaning of the sentence. So if you think the sentence is just as grammatically correct without these two words, then it's ok, you don't need to correct it

> at 3:28: (p. 344): "sempre elle só. Elle... E as fórmas que sahiam...etc" - you inserted the words "as fórmas" in the beginning and left them out in the second sentence. I don't know how that could have happened. :hmm: I hear "sempre as formas elle só. Elle.... E que sahiam..."

> at 15:07: your recording stops too abruptly at the end. We have a standard of 5 seconds of silence that we want to leave at the end of each recording. Could you please insert those 5 seconds ? Also at the beginning you start a bit abruptly, we usually leave 0.5 to 1 second of silence there too (not more). But you don't need to correct that for this section, only the 5 seconds at the end.

Please reupload the corrected section with the exact same filename (no "version 2" added to the name please). The new file will replace the old file in the Magic Window then.

Thanks ! Great first recording. Hopefully more to come.

Hey Kitty!

I'm glad you liked it!

I'll correct these mistakes tonight. They probably happened because the file you guys gave us to read is quite old and uses a very archaic orthography - I'm not sure if you are aware of that. It gets quite difficult to decipher sometimes, since many words, including some very common ones, are written in a different way than the way we use nowadays.

I found another version of the same book, offered for free, in the website of this editorial project from the University of Brasília, "Biblioteca Básica Brasileira": http://www.fundar.org.br/bbb/index.php/project/canaa-graca-aranha/ . It should make everybody's work a lot easier if we could read from this version, which has been updated to the current orthography.

Thank you for the kind words!

All the best

Yes I'm sorry about that :( But the thing is, we need to have a text source that is in the public domain and that means it has to be published before 1923. So naturally all the books here on LV are "archaic" in a way.

Your new source may have done editorial changes and then it wouldn't be public domain anymore, so we cannot use it. We have all to stick to the text that is given in the first post. Sorry.

Hello there!

I've uploaded the file with the corrections you asked!

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/canaa_13_aranha_128kb.mp3

Hopefuly everything is OK now. If you find I need to adjust anything else, all you have to do is ask. ;-)

If this one is fine, I'd like then to claim section 11 (chapter IX).

Thank you

Hello hello!

This was (predictably) a lot more work than section 13... But it is done! I've finished and uploaded section 1:

https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/canaa_11_aranha_128kb.mp3

Please check it out and let me know if there's anything that needs to be corrected.

Thank you!

thank you so much, Marcio. This was indeed a long section. You can be proud of this feat. I know I wouldn't have wanted to do such a long section as a totally new reader. :?

But you did it brilliantly, I didn't find any textual errors and it was wonderfully narrated. I especially loved the heated scene in the courtroom. You really got into a rage here, speaking for the several judges and lawyers. I think you would be wonderful in our dramatic forum as well (but then you have to read in English). Well this reading in character makes it all very lively.

The beginning was a very gruesome scene. I'm not sure I understood it all correctly, but did the pigs kill and even eat a little baby there ? :? Shocking and powerful intro.

Well, the whole section is PL ok. Great job !

Thanks

Sonia
