Anabasis by Xenophon (ca. 430 BC - 354 BC).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/anabasis-by-xenophon/

Ξενοφῶντος Κύρου Ἀνάβασις.

(Xenophon the Athenian was born 431 B.C. He was a pupil of Socrates. He marched with the Spartans, and was exiled from Athens. Sparta gave him land and property in Scillus, where he lived for many years before having to move once more, to settle in Corinth. He died in 354 B.C. "Anabasis" is a Greek word which means "journey from the coast to the center of a country." This is Xenophon's account of his march to Persia with a troop of Greek mercenaries to aid Cyrus, who enlisted Greek help to try and take the throne from his brother Artaxerxes, and the ensuing return of the Greeks, in which Xenophon played a leading role. This occurred between 401 B.C. and March 399 B.C. )

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Please notice that I plan to do this recording using the Erasmic pronunciation. However, I intend to pronounce the iota subscripts and observe the lengths of the vowels.

I'm not sure how you did it, but you've got a bunch of html code in your first post. Could you somehow get rid of it and only use bbcode?

I think it's fixed now. Maybe the problem was saving the post as a draft?

I can MC this one for you, bedwere, but I can't PL it. We can always advertise for a DPL who can listen to the project, or we can figure something else out. Back in a moment with your MW!

OK, the MW is up and ready for you! I will go ahead and advertise for a DPL for this project, but feel free to record and post your sections. I will move us in a few days to Going Solo.

Of course! If that perspective DPL'er is nervous about having to check the technical requirements, tell them not to worry about that. I will take care of that if that is the only thing standing in the way of them helping us out.

I'd like to volunteer for PL. Where do I download the files, and where do I upload the notes?

Thank you! You can download the file from the Magic Window (MW), which is in the first post of this thread. The notes can just be posted to the thread itself, just like you have done for your first post. Here is the post that gives you the rundown on how to proof listen. viewtopic.php?p=318667#p318667 If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Icequeen is the best, Xenophontic. You can check what kind of mistakes you can expect from me and how to report them from the ongoing thread on the recording of De Civitate Dei. Many thanks to both!

 Thanks bedwere! You make all your recordings easy and a joy to listen to! I really wish I could listen to this one as well, but Greek is not my thing. I did try Attic Greek once, but I didn't keep up with it.

8:38 καὶ ἁθροίζει καὶ ἁθροίζει

That was the only error that I noticed listening.
