Report of the President's Commission on the Accident at Three Mile Island .

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/report-of-the-presidents-commission-on-the-accident-at-three-mile-island/
At 4:00 a.m. on March 28, 1979, a serious accident occurred at the Three Mile Island 2 nuclear power plant near Middletown, Pennsylvania. The accident was initiated by mechanical malfunctions in the plant and made much worse by a combination of human errors in responding to it. During the next 4 days, the extent and gravity of the accident was unclear to the managers of the plant, to federal and state officials, and to the general public. What is quite clear is that its impact, nationally and internationally, has raised serious concerns about the safety of nuclear power. This Commission was established in response to those concerns. (Summary from the preface)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.pddoc.com/tmi2/kemeny/index.html
(Catalog entry will have https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/007418765 )
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Ooh, I can't resist. If it's not too greedy of me, may I claim sections 11-15, the Account of the Accident?

I'm OK with that. I know you're good for them. 8-)

That "(sic)" in the final part of the one section: you can probably leave the "sic" out since I think it's about the spelling, and no listener is going to hear the British spelling of the word.

Thanks, Tricia! I promise to relinquish some sections, if I find I can't do them all in time, so no worries that I'll simply run away on you!

(I'll omit the "sic". I never see anything wrong with Brit spellings, anyway. I learned to spell during a childhood in Canada, and 50 years later I still occasionally slip into Canadian spelling!)

I finished my other two projects, so I can do the Overview, if you want. I still remember all too well when it happened--I had family in Hershey.
