This thread is building upon an earlier post made by annise. With her permission, I have decided to create this list.

Below is a list of books written by African-American authors that we have not yet recorded for Librivox. If you have any more suggestions for additional texts or if you know of something on the list that has been recorded (by you or someone else) please post a note in this thread so an Admin can add/remove it. Strictly speaking , it's not written by an African-American Author unless Henson is - but it's interesting . I'm assuming that there will be books that are not about African Americans that qualify and books about them written by non qualifying authors that don't ?

A quick look at the beginning of the book confirms he was African American. Born in Maryland in 1866. Reading just a couple of paragraphs, it looks to be an interesting book.

A quick look at the beginning of the book confirms he was African American. Born in Maryland in 1866. Reading just a couple of paragraphs, it looks to be an interesting book.

Hensen was indeed an African-American writer and explorer of great renown. However, since we've already recorded that particular book, I'm leaving it off the list for now (although additional versions of that book would be welcome!). Did he write anything else though? Is there anything left from him to record?

I didn’t realize Henson’s book was already in the LibriVox catalog. It looks as though that was his only book. What an amazing accomplishment that expedition must have been!
