I remember seeing a post that listed all the characters you can't enter in the Magic Window, one of them being quotation marks ("). I can't find that post now (should have bookmarked it or something).
I just wanted to check and make sure exclamation points (!) and semi-colons (;) are okay. Does anyone know?

For some reason I remember the limitation as being on the MP3 tags, not Magic Window. Are they related?

It's in the wiki: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=BC%27s:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window#Entering_titles_into_the_Section_Compiler
I know the quote mark makes the rest of the section title disappear over at Archive. I'm not sure what the rest of them do.Do not include the following characters in section titles (or ID3 tags)
" ; / & > or <
Yes, because the section titles go directly into the ID tags. For some reason I remember the limitation as being on the MP3 tags, not Magic Window. Are they related?

I think it's that you can't put those characters in the section title of the MW. Putting them in, say, the notes field should be ok, right?

Yes. In notes, it's fine.
The issue is when the section titles of the MW transfer over to the MP3 ID tags. Since the notes field doesn't transfer over, there is no problem with them.
(That's also why there should be no html formatting in the section titles - because that would transfer over to the ID tags and break stuff.)

So I have a chapter titled "Snow-White; Rose-Red." What should I put in lieu of the semi-colon? Nothing?

In that case, maybe a comma or a period?
School fiction: David Blaize
America Exploration: The First Four Voyages of Amerigo Vespucci
Serial novel: The Wandering Jew
Medieval England meets Civil War Americans: Centuries Apart

Sounds good! Think I'll do a comma... Thanks for your help!
